Title: Health updates.
Post by: Bigron on 15 September 2019, 01:32:00
Hi All.

As mentioned elsewhere, my car passed its MOT last week, no advisories, just a clear pass and a compliment from the tester on its condition for its age!
I had an appointment with the diabetes consultant last Friday and he wants me to go on to insulin. Obviously I'm not keen, but I want to live, so I'll have to accept it. He did say that so long as I keep my blood sugar level under control. I won't have to give up driving - phew!
I have another appointment this coming Wednesdaay to get the results of my neck scan regarding suspected cancer: fingers crossed.
Also, Wednesday week I have an appointment with my kidney specialist - the one who gave me two years to live!

Ron.

When did you last see the kidney specialist?

You might be due a refund... :D

Joking aside, as long as the diabetes is properly managed, there's no reason for life to change :y

yes, tell the kidney specialist that you want to book 2060 & 2061 as your 2 years  :y

do you currently test your own blood glucose levels Ron ?,
most machines have a non delete-able history but if you manage diabetes well , there is no reason to give up driving

sounds like you've looked after the Omega better than yourself ...
is it time to cut down on the booze fueled ,wild ,late night  sex parties perhaps  :P

By the 'eck Ron lad you're not after doing things by halves are you :o Joking aside while being insulin dependant may not be the ideal it is one of the medical advances to be grateful for[I lost several relatives on my mothers side of the family to diabetes back when it was a killer]Fingers-and all else-crossed for your medical checks coming back on the winning side :y :y

Good luck Ron, and  one of my grandchildren has had type 1 since he was about four, but he’s 11 now and he’s got used to the needles etc and living a normal life. But as said it demands good monitoring and management.

Hope all goes well Ron.  Fighting diabetes is a pain, but is absolutely essential if you want to live with most things still in place.

Just a heads up Ron, if you do not already know, that if you go on insulin, you must let DVLA know and then you will be on a restricted 3 year licence, with health questions being asked / investigated, before they issue you with a new licence every 3 years. You will also need to let your insurance company know. Never a real problem, but something that must be done ;)

Good news about the car! :D :y

I met a keen cyclist last week, who tells me that regular keep fit cycling has removed his requirement for insulin! Not sure how that works, and as you are probably more likely to get killed being knocked off a bike than by diabetes while on insulin, it is not perhaps the safest option.
Good luck with all the tests Ron. :y

Yes indeed! ;D ;D ;D

I used to love riding my bike miles when I was married, but on today's roads; forget it!  Give me diabetes and insulin anyday, as I should live longer! ;D ;D ;D :)

A dog walking friend of mine was told he was pre-diabetic (whatever that means). He went on a diet and exercised regularly, and was then told he was back to fitness. So exercise and diet are obviously important.

I've just had a ginsters pasty and a few shortbread biscuits for my lunch, so I'm bound to be ok.

I'm going to see nurse Dracula in half an hour, then we can have our annual 'discussion' about statins.

Done, I'll wait for the phone call to tell me I'm not very well and I should take some nice statins.

I'm sure your Gristlers pasty & palm oil filled shortbread were just the top up your LDL cholesterol needed to keep you as unfit as a fiddle. ::)

I am a really firm believer in playing the hand you are dealt. There is no heart disease in my family, nor diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer...anything. We were dragged up on corned beef, cheap sausages and scouse. I smoked 40 a day for years and drank heavily, as did my brothers. We are all still here and still well.

Mental health is a matter of opinion...... ;D

Had a very intense conversation with a very pretty junior doctor, (female) :D when i was at Papworth for my second, and successful, ablation. The subject was statins. She was banging on about how wonderful they were, to which i replied, how do you know, you,re only about 25? Now, some years later my cholesterol is lower than when i was taking the stuff. Haven,t got the aches and pains in the joints either. :y

I have very few living relatives because most of them were dead from either cancer or heart disease before they got to my age. Several of them didn't even see their 40th birthday. Maybe Im the lucky one ? We shall see I  suppose.

I really do appreciate your kind words of support, folks - and the p1ss-takes too! Lycra indeed!
It's not only my diabetes to worry about, but the stage 4 kidney disease that's the bigger threat, plus the uncertainty regarding the suspected cancer.
I do check my blood sugar level; four pricks per day...steady, Lizzie ;D

;D ;D ;D ;D but that is not enough Ron; I prick myself up to 8 times a day, or even more if I believe there is something wrong with my sugar level. Just a shame my love for the blood tester machine has replaced the love from a fit man! ::)  ::) ;D ;D ;D ;)
