anyone know how to identify one from the other when they're both off the car ?

may be from valve and cylinder bore size  ..  3.0 must be bigger..
 
iirc 79.6 81.6 vs 86 mm

Is to not etched along the edge...?

Sure Daz showed me some pin punch markings on a flat near one of the corners. :-\

Its normaly engraved into a flat along the side.

Or measure the squish area volume.
