Hi Guys

Sorry if this has been posted before. I searched but couldnt find anything.

The Keyfob on my X reg Omega CDX (2.5 6 cylinder turbo diesel) has been a bit unreliable recently.
So I gave it to a friend to fix and he broke the little circuit board inside completely

I understand its over £100 to get a new key from vauhall. Is that my only option? Or is there some way I can replace it for cheaper.

Ive set the alarm on silent so I can still use the car for now but the sidelights still flash. Is there any way I can stop that?

Facelift 3 button fob is £27 + VAT. If you are near http://theboy.omegaowners.com that is likely to be the cheapest programming around

(I should add, in the spirit of fairness and openess, that link is to my site).

Hi. Welcome to the forum.

Silent mode on the alarm :-/ you mean you've unplugged the siren? Cos the alarm does/shouldn't have a silent mode.

Sidelights flashing, you mean indicators. :-/
If you update you profile, it might be that there is someone local-ish to you that could programme you a new fob.

Get fob only from dealers parts dept. ...do NOT go into the service dept, they will tell you its no good if not programmed. £35 new, get THE BOY to prog, via his site then fit your key blade and immobiliser chip to the new fob.

He did mine and others, saved a fortune.

For info, the case and buttons are available from gay bay as a kit for £15 odd. Buttons easily soldered in as a Kevin Wood showed me last week. But as your inards are broke it's dealers for you.

Key, car pass numbers, car, and tech 2 all need to be present for programming fob etc.

And welcome btw.

The key part is fine but the circuit board with the buttons on it is totally broken and the case has seen better days.

So its £35 + £20 to program it. Thats A lot more like what I want to spend.

Im in Manchester so I guess that TheBoy is quite far away.
Anyone close to me I can try?

Sorry. I know that the bloke from Polar Air Con http://www.polar-aircon.co.uk/ has a real Tech II ..... whether he can use it

No idea of his prices I only know he has it cos he's done a/c on my car & I spotted it in his van.

then you need to buy a Car Pass from your local friendly dealer. They cost anything from around £25 to £silly

Only the silly arse put the cheap switches in his, and the more expensive ones in Monkey-Nuts fob. Hope they give you an extra pickle tray next time you visit

Plated holes ripped out of the board.
About 9 tracks peeled off.

Its very broken.

How else can the cheap ones be adequately tested than being on my err... spare... er.. fob that sits in a drawer.... Anyway, moving swiftly on...

While we are on the subject of key fobs,i have to press mine really hard most of the time to get it to work properly.Is there an easy fix for this at all. :-/

Well the minimum order of switches is 10 and postage from RS - you are looking at about £10 for the parts.

Just good with a soldering iron, use modelling skills to repair some damage, and I have excellent close up vision.

Thats including callout fee.

Im not complaining but that brings the total price (incl new blank key) back to around £100 which is competing with Vauxhalls service department.

Can anyone think of other alternatives?

Your cheapest option, if the fob is truly beyond repair, would be to source a new / 2nd hand one and get it programmed by one of our Tech 2 custodians.

2nd hand runs the risk of an incompatible fob unless you can compare the circuit boards and determine that they are identical. New ones are about £30 odd from a dealer excluding programming, IIRC. See the link at the bottom of my post for Tech 2 prices and locations.

Put a photo on here of it - you never know - it MIGHT be repairable.
