That looks like one of the generic sets that cover lots of engines, and you've highlighted the Vx tools.

I think the Blue is for the 1.6/1.8 small blocks and the Gold for the 1.8/2.0/2.2 big block engines

Gold one looks the same size as the one I bought. Then again, I went and lost the damn thing before doing mine.

TBH I really dont think you need one for the Desmond, crank stays put and its easy to set the cams as you go as there's only 2 of them. S how I did mine anyway.  8)

So long as you do a couple of full rotations by hand and check everthing's still TDC and you'll be fine.

Go for it  :y

The joy of the desmond is that there is so much space to work and its fundamentally a really simple engine. I did mine in 2.5hrs or thereabouts and was reliably informed that I was slow as f@ck.  ;D

Last one I did was on a transverse 2.5 v6 AWD X-type. I concluded that what I really needed was a left handed proctologist to help me out with that one!  ;D

Does your kit include a water pump? if not I'd get one "while you're in there" as they are cheap as chips and its a good excuse to drain & change the coolant.

Waterpump is essential on the 2.2 as it's what tensions the belt :y

Well there you go, I must have completely mis-remembered how the timing belt goes on, thought there was a separate tensioner.  :-\

Usage of the common sense is crucial when using advanced methods like that  ;)

For me, there were not even a scratch on pulleys surface when I removed those grips. But I sure understand that if someone with too much power and too little sense uses that method, will sure deform or even crack the pulleys. In that case, it would be best just to focus only to oil change operations and leave all the rest to mechanician  ::)

They're relatively brittle by virtue of how they're made :)
