Also .sorry to go right back to the beggining but the temp sender lead that you checked was definately the single spade one for the guage ? Ive not got any experience of that engine so cannot tell you its location. Youre not looking at the wrong sensor are you. On most engines its like a brass bolt affair not sure on your thou ?

Hi cam in head

Thanks for taking the time to have a look at the unit you've got but I think mine is a completely different animal to what you have, I'll post some photos on here as soon as I can find out how to upload them.
It's far better than trying to describe things, but coming back to my instrument cluster, it's very much looking as though it's going to be one of the following options:

Buy a new one (arm and a leg job).
Buy a second hand one ( trouble with that is, how long will it last or indeed if there are any issues with it. If there are any it would mean pulling it out all over again, which is a bit of a pain)
Last, find a company who specialises in repairing them.
Whatever happens I will defiantly post the outcome as it may be useful to anyone else with a similar problem at some point in the future.

As I say I will try and post some photos on here and you will then see what mine looks like or anyone else who's got a similar problem.

Yep. That's the same as I've been playing with here.i would try putting it all back together ( check that needle moves and slowly falls,Ie not stuck)then put it back in your car after writing all the numbers down. You never know. Getting it out again is really easy . Did you have any problems ?.remove centre vents ,couple of screws and it comes out straight away. 2 plugs to undo.then you could try sourcing a second hand one. Should be no problems with a second hand one they are quite reliable
