Vented / Non vented rear discs
Are they the same pads ?

Local oppswit dealer says 15 quid for the fronts, 12.77 for the rears   
So I ask him to check again after explaining that the car has the vented rear discs fitted and he comes back with a price of .................. 57 quid + vat and it will take 2 days to arrive
Walk out and phone a local factors who tell me that 3 manufactures catalogues say they is only one pad fitted the the rears of the omega and he can have them too me within the hour for 19 quid inc 

Who's right on this.

If memory serves me correctly, and it probably doesn't .. there is definitly a difference, either in the pads or the caliper .... if the wrong one is fitted the piston can over extend and drop out as the unvented disc is much thinner than the vented one.

OK .. my ancient - and probably out of date version of the EPC ..

part no 9193476 - pads for unvented rear brakes

part no 9195058 - pads for vented rear brakes

so different part numbers ..

try giving AndyC a ring ??

Rear pads are different between vented and non vented discs.  Thats why MickDundee had the rear pistons pop out of the caliper and lost brake fluid/brakes, as I remember it.,,,,,   

No .... that was because some numpty at a garage fitted solid discs at the back instead of vented.

I've just pulled up this off the tradeclub site

3.2i 24v V6 - Y32SE  Brake Shoes; 160 x 25mm  90541931  £76.50  £65.09  £46.43         

But ............. my thinking would be that the caliper would be different, not the pad itself 

It wouldn't surprise me if the muppets (polite version) at Evans Halshaw around here are trying to pull a fast one.

Tigers - your last post was a price for brake shoes, not pads. The shoes are inside the hub and are for the hand brake, distinctly different to brake pads.

Well "a" set of pads should be here about 1pm so sit down, make yourself a cupper and awate the next episode

Ok, the rear pads are the same BUT the spring clips and nails are different 
With the vented discs, due to the extra width of the disc, the standard nails are not long enough to hold the pads in so you must reuse the nails and spring clips off the original

Bought a set of rear pads for Estate last year - pattern (ok as rears do little work) - specified model and vented discs, came complete with springs and the longer pins - all for less than £12.  Used these before on previous Omegas without problems (solid discs though and came with correct sized pins).

And yes pads are same for vented and solid discs - as said differences are calipers and pins.

FFS, lets settle this once and for all.

The rear pads are identical across the range, if buying pads only.

GM supply two difference compounds of pad:
Tradeclub - about £10 + VAT, comes as pad only
OE - about £50 + VAT, comes as pads and fitting kit (Pins and spring)


Because the OE include the fitting kit, they are tailored to either solid or vent discs, as the pins and spring are larger on vented discs.

IMHO, no need to use OE rear pads, making the extra cost not worthwhile, unless you need the fitting kit (which does come to around £35+VAT now).  Being a softer pad, I actually prefer the TC rear pads.

If mine's enabled, I really struggle to get it to misbehave - going in to a corner/roundabout very hard on the brakes so you get something no dissimilar to lift off oversteer seems to be only way.  Brakes are already tightly on, so its options of applying brake or cutting power are both useless

Though others have complained that their's isn't that good - in particular, Andy B says his is too intrusive.  Not suffered that myself, short of being a cock on slippery surfaces, and Andy B is old enough and ugly enough not to do that...  ...well, of course there are times for such childishness, but you know what I mean.

It's proper enough for me  ...... and I doubt other 'proper' 4x4s ever go anywhere they'd need high/low range or diff locks - half of the green ovals go as far on a flat bed as they do on the road anyway!

nothing wrong with a landy and mine don't go anywhere near a flat bed.....diff lock is ideal in the snow though...you will never get stuck
