Omega Simtec 71 ECU
« on: 17 April 2007, 00:52:43 »

Hi folks,

Is it really possible to change the EPROM software/firmware without chaning the actual chip on Omega Simtec 71 ECU ?  i.e : Simply re-program the ECU ?

according to the dealer , they did that to solve cold morning kickup issue I had ,
I could see they did not change the ECU , and only used the GM Diag Tool !?
I thinking they might have just re-tuned something ....and over-charged me !.
that on is Omega 2.2 16v faceleft.

do know any URL for tech2 and TSI2000 ?

- Is that possilbe  using ELM327 USB Cable  ? Or would I need to get the  tech2 software and hardware as well . please elaborate for a new user of ECU management packages. ;)

- I'm looking for best s.w and cable to read/write ECU codes and also re-program , that can be used with this car  Z22XE and other cars if needed . I was looking into voxcheck and enginecheck s.w  , comes with ELM327 USB Cable from Genaden and works with other cars but that only reads ECU .

The TIS and Tech2 combination only put on the standard software as released by Vauxhall/Opel...

I'm not aware of any companies doing performance upgrade maps for the 2.2 on the Omega.

dear Moya,

If you are living in Jordan , I think its good to share our "omega" experiences since local dealer here is fooling around.

try these , ( sorry guys for wired charachters , its in Arabic .
Be carefull , Omega ECU can be tricky , make sure you have the correct engine code before you buy the ECU , each Omega year and Engine has different ECU , If I'm not wrong.
not sure about price ! .

Eyad,

[ch1587][ch1604][ch1575][ch1605] [ch1593][ch1604][ch1610][ch1603][ch1605]

TIS2000 is a subscription-based software supplied by GM to Opel/Vauxhall dealers and garages and contains technical information bulletins and service updates. The latest ECU software versions are supplied through TIS2000. As with any other software, it may be possible to obtain illegal copies of TIS2000, but we do not support use of pirated software and we certainly can’t provide any information regarding how you might obtain such a copy.

Tech2 is the official GM diagnostic tool. With Tech2 and TIS2000, you can update the software on the various ECUs (e.g. Engine ECU, Automatic gearbox ECU, Aircon ECU etc).  The TIS2000 software will be running on a laptop, and Tech2 will be connected to the ODB diagnostic socket on the car on one side and to the laptop on the other.

Both Tech2 and TIS2000 are very expensive to buy (the cost is several thousands of Pounds), and generally only garages can afford buying them, though there are one or two enthusiast who bought them privately.

Also, the combination of Tech2 and TIS2000 can only be used to upload newer official GM versions of the ECU software, but as things stand I am not aware of anyone providing re-mapped software versions for Omega for upload through Tech2.

Other third party ODB scanning tools can read codes and reset warning lights, but I am not aware of any such third party tool that can actually upload new ECU software versions as Tech2 does.

As for your dealer, he may have very well updated the software on your engine ECU to the latest official GM release using Tech2. This should not take long and does not require any parts to be removed or replaced in the engine bay – the ECU on later Omegas is flashable i.e. it can be erased and re-written electronically using Tech2.

If you have a third party ODB scan tool, it may show you the version of the ECU software, and if you post it here then we can tell you if this is indeed the latest version available.

Thanks markjay,
For a v. clear answer.
As u said.  I don't think I will get the Tech2 or any GM tool with s.w since it’s really expensive and not worth it for a single home user. Most local maintenance garages I know here do not use the original or compatible GM tech2, but they use a generic OBD/EOBD scanner that only reads/resets few codes.

I've found some 3rd part s.w on the web made for Omega and runs on PC/Laptop, not very expensive.
I guess that would be enough to read and clear alarms and figure out the s.w release version being used as mentioned.

Finding other local capable workshop that has GM Tech2 is my next step. Or may be getting the GM Tech2 ;)

Thanx alot Eyad. [ch1603][ch1601][ch1610][ch1578] [ch1608][ch1608][ch1601][ch1610][ch1578]

I'm Jordanian but I live in Saudi Arabia. I would like also to share my omega experience with you cause the dealer here is fooling around too.

I'm suffering from TC (Traction Control) problem. The TC starts to work and disconnects the accelarator while the car is stopped and the gear is on Parking.

I asked more than one mechanic here and all of them said that your cars needs a new ECU or PCM (or the thing that is placed behind the battery)

Did you hear about this problem before? My car is 2002 with a 3.2 engine.

I'm trying to get a used ECU from here but I can't find one. So, I am thinking to bring it from Jordan.

folks,
thanks for many posts about this issue , i searched for a 3rd party ECU flasher ( Tech2 ) that can be worth paying for  . most of them do not list Simtec 71 ECU on 2.2 16v but rather Simtec70 on the 2.0 16v.

I checking with each seller if working with Simtec 71 ECU!. some has ready engine tune maps as well.
if any one tried similar before or could advice from eariler experience . I'm looking for readin / writing maps and flash capability.
, I'm willing to take a chance with one of these but simply can't tell which is good as never used one .
your feedback would be always very helpful .

e.g : KWP2000 ECU Flasher diag & tuning remap + OBD

Does any one know which of these EOBD/OBDII Protocol GM Tech2 runs / supports ?

SAE-J1850 VPW ?
ISO-9141
ISO-14230 (KWP2000)

If any one has the tech2 interface , the tech. specs might list it , I do not have it :(
