VW sat nav update
« on: 10 December 2018, 15:00:37 »

I have decided to update my Europe maps on the sat nav.

Three possibilities

1. Download the 24 gb file from VW website onto an SD card

2. Buy from VW dealer the update and SD card(with VW logo) 111 euros/£100

3. Ebay from Latvia VW logo'd SD card with update. about £30

Decisions decisions...... :-\ :-\ :-\

Given the amount of damage and hassle I've had updating the satnav in mine, I'm not the best person to advise ;D

Ah I have seen threads on issues on VW forums. Maybe the £100 Sd media dealer option guarantees success.

Paging tunnie. Did you update yours successfully.? Discover Pro.

That's to say that the advice you give today may well be entirely different from the advice you gave previously  :D

But dismantling the whole infotainment system, and using a professional engineer tool, to fix it was not good....

It's fun when the VAG ones decide to restart in German after updating the software. I really enjoyed that task.

Literally the only phrase I can remember from GCSE German.

Back to the original options - £100 to pay the dealer to download a file to the SD card and stick it in the slot. £30 to pay a Latvian on ebay to ... download the file to an SD card and post it to you. Or FREE to download the file and copy it to an SD card and stick it in the slot.

Doesn't seem much of a decision...

The only issue is owners who have had problems. It is the route I will take once I have made sure the right MIB files are present. There are supposed to be two updates per year. The later “november/December” isnt out yet.  At least leaving the car with the key in while the update takes place over an hour or more isnt an issue for us.
