hi DTM you said   Or cut the wire at the back of the MID.....
which wire would that be ? ;)
Now I would not ever disagree with 'The Great One', but I'm not convinced that would work, as presumably your HU doesn't pass any signals to MID anyway  :-/

Sometimes I hate being right most of the time.  :y

Red-white wire, pin 8 of the MID connector.

This is the switched output from the radio which tells the MID that the radio is on....

The reason I also mentioned radio reception is that the switched output from the rad also goes to the aerial amp....and its this that I beleave you have disconnected at the moment.

Thread Hijack Alert :exclamation

is this why my aftermarket head unit (fitted since i've owned car) has never worked properly;
1 Date goes out
2 To get Cd's to play i have to switch between af/ta (alt frq / traf alert)
3 radio reception is always bad (better with rear blind up!!! ;D)

never got round to investigating :D

Would need a bit more to go on like, radio type, any interface modules, wiring changes etc?

Mark i've never had the radio out it's a Sony CDX-C6850R, just wondered about the signal to aerial amp you spoke of? :y

cheers

Jake

and talking of headrests I've got the 3rd rear centre headrest in the cupboard here so if you want it you're welcome to drop by when you down this way next Kev. :y

(personally i left it out as i think it looks better with 2 and you can see who you've just overtaken better ;))

it's late 97R pre-facelift, I fitted mini-facelift projector headlights to confuse the issue ;)

my guess would be clogged breathers: give em a clean plus a couple of oil changes.  I'd also work it through the rev range a bit more.  gearbox is likely to be the selector- probably gummed up through lack of use.  There is a way of cleaning but I don't know how - i have a manual....

also, make sure it has had a recent canbelt change.  despite low mileage the age could do the tensioners in.  if you are not certain that the belt and tensioner kit has been fitted then get it done

I have heard this on here many times! PLEASE can some one explain to me how age can affect a bearing race? Do they put sell by dates on cambelt kits?

despite doing low miles in mine prob 5000 year max, it's mostly in town, stop start motoring puts a lot more strain on tensioners and belts than sitting on the motorway eating the miles away :y

well i started to loosen it off and petrol started pissing out so tightened it back up with a big screwdriver and rubber mallet and leak seems to have stopped. (fingers crossed) :-/

serves me right for trying to get 67 litres in a 65 litre tank :D :-[

taken the access hatch off and seems to be a lot of petrol around the locking ring, is this a common failure / leak? :'( :-/
