I've always said that there are some sparks at work that I wouldn't trust to wire a plug .... this is the proof.
Very long story short .... a hoist needed wiring up and a temporary supply to feed it. Some numpty wired a socket to it instead of a plug so the obvious solution  was  ....

I'd have thought that EVERYONE knows not to put a plug on either end of a cable

I once hired a 40 kVa generator that was delivered with a male 32A 3 phase commando plug on the end. Guy had started it up, while I was holding the plug in my hand looking confused, before I gently put it back on the ground and asked him politely to stop the generator again and come spot the deliberate mistake.
