Title: Oil cooler plate leak

Hi guys, last year I found a cause of coolant leak and decided to sort it out at the same time as cambelt which is planned for this summer.
The question is: Is it adviceable to replace entire oil cooler while I'm there or just reseal an old cooler plate?
Oil cooler isn't mixing oil and coolant  for now.
If anyone has any parts laying around  I could use here, let me know.

Might as well replace it if you're already stripping it to that point. Do the thermostat as well ;)

Ensure you seal all around each bolt hole on the outer edge....mastic gun is needed

As for actual cooler, depends on history.  Its believed, apart from very early ones, that poor coolant servicing killed them, rather than age.  So if unclear, worth changing, if you know its been well maintained, you can save the cost.

My 19yr old MV6 was on original cooler when scrapped.

Well I changed coolant 3 years ago...it was blue coolant in it before. I'll change oil cooler for the sake of it while it's all apart, just need to find all bits and pieces now.

Cooler was around $149 and stat $35... pipe is $12.

Uk prices the same numbers, but in £. All genuine :y

Yes I saw, will order oil cooler from your country - it's cheaper than from Germany, already have the stat, reuse the pipe - just replace O-rings, already have water pump and aux belt pulley prepared. Only things to get now are washers for coolant bridge, cambelt set and aux belt. Then just some rust repair in summer and I hope she'll be fine for next 4 years.

Its not uncommon for the threads which hold the cooler to the cooler plate to strip when the fixing nuts are removed so having a replacement cooler is a good move.

Don't forget the metal washers for the banjo bolt that connect the cooler pipes to the cooler.  :y

Main dealers sell those washers for not a lot of money.However when I bought my oil cooler it came with the washers included,the only "extra" bits I needed were the Dowty washers for the coolant bridge-and the grey sealant of course.
