Sill protector removal
« on: 30 March 2020, 00:26:18 »

I need to remove the sill cover on my fl omega to do a bit of welding to the sill.

Now I know that I am going to need new clips in order to re-fit it, so my question is, does anybody know the part number and if they are still available.

Thanks.

Remove them with thought and you can reuse them :)

Removed mine last summer and didn't need any new fixings to put them back. Just take your time and it should be ok.

Remove the plate at the rear first, then slide the cover to the rear. Some clips may still break, but you don't need them all, three or four will hold it on satisfactorily. Vx probably still stock them, if you can find a dealer still open at this troubled time.

Ignore the above. All wrong...

Turn the steering wheel fully to the side you are working on.
Remove the torx screw from under the front of the sill cover.
Pop off the black plastic clips from the bottom edge of the sill cover.
Slide the sill cover forwards until it falls off. (you may need to pull the bottom edge down slightly to clear the clip pins).
Push the centres in on the two rivets on the rear plate and retrieve from under the car.
Pull the rear sill plate off.

Refitting is not the reverse.

Relocate the sill cover in position (line it up with the front wheel arch) and slap it onto the clips with the flat of your hand.
Refit the plastic rings underneath along with the torx screw.
Refit the rear cover followed by the two rivets.

Thanks for your replies.

I'll give it a go and see how I get on. Terry thanks for the offer, I'll contact you if I struggle to get any clips.

Well to my surprise, I managed to remove both sill covers without breaking any of the clips.  :D

Once covers were removed the extent of the rust was not as bad as I had expected, no need to get the welder out.

After a good clean down with wire brush the metal was still whole so was given a good coat of rust converter, primed and then painted.

Not quite the right colour, but all hidden anyway so not really bothered, as long as it protects.
