Confirmed - Project B Mainfold nakered
« on: 25 August 2006, 17:53:26 »

Took it down ATS, who were very helpfull had it on the ramps and let me have a look, he said it was the head to the manifold?? Which is blowing... :'(

Not sure what to do now, only paid £300 for it, I doubt i could strip the car as quick as Ronnie did, would take me several weeks to do that i think!!

On the plus side, the leather interior is in fairly good condition, no rips or cuts, just needs a clean.

All the door cars are good, with the 'rare' rear demist slots.

No alloys though and no climate panel.... :(

So bit stuck for what to do.... still waiting for the sodding Log Book!  >:(

1) Sell it as is, and just describe the fault and sell for as much as possible
2) Break it - Apart from the leather and door cards, not much to sell  :(

3) Anyone here fancy a project?  ;D

Just been out to look at mine does look like a bit of a tight squeeze maybe out with the drivers side engine mount tilt the engine over and swear away ;D.

would be a b'stard job though if the bolts started snapping.

Whats your way of doing it, my impression was that its an engine out job? - Access seams very tight down there from above the engine, underneath access seamed no better  :-/

But i heard you might have a special way  ;)

tbh i thought this was an engine out ........when i read but bet Mark has a better way  :)

Personally id break it - i am doing similar as you know with a similar value car.

Does it have alloys, cd changer and rear blind, and fogs. If so theres most of your money already!!!

I think it can be done (just) without moving the engine. Someone did manage it on the other forum.

Mark says it can be done by just lifting and shifting the engine a bit.

Problem is that if a stud shears you really do need to take the engine out. I'd say that there is a distinct possibility of a stud going.

I am sure Mark has a better way... maybe i should go via Nottingham on the way to the Petrol station!  ;D

Er in answer to your question markiec.... Nope, nope, nope (its an estate), 1 fog light is cracked  >:(

Has working aircon, but thats not much use.

Only remotly valuble bits are: Auto Dimming Mirror, Leccy Mirrors, Cruise, Tow Bar with Electrics, Leather Interior with door cards, Tax Disc (Dec '06)

Doubt i can make 300 with that, its got an MOT until december '06 as well...

On the later ones (with the smaller 4 way ABS stup) you can just squeeze it out.....on the early ones its a case of pop the engine mounts off and hoic it over a few inches..

Some times you are lucky and the studs come out of the head and you dont need to move the engine at all.

You wouldnt believe what would sell Tunnie.......in short EVERYTHING

Fog lamp switches, airbags, electric mirror switches headlights, badges, it will all go in time. Window regulators, window glass etc

Check ebay completed items and see.....My current breaking 1995 rover with no toys has lost (along with the things you would expect to go) its front and rear bumpers, bonnet, 1 door, both front windows, carpets, roof lining, second hand calipers.....

think my dad might complain to come back home to find his side of the garage full of bits...  ;D

I can see where you comming from.. doing something like Ronnie did might be interesting! Stripping the car in a matter of hours

A full leather inteior for an estate is not common, so maybe a few people on here with Plod estates might be interested in it!  :)

Think my plan is, wait for the log book to arrive cause its taking ages!  >:( - But on autotrader, and if it does not sell break it.

Problem with that though is to break would take time, and sell its bit. Something i don't really have as this time next month i am due back at uni...
