Oh if you can't get down to 20mpg on a 4 cylinder Omega you need to try harder!

i don't tow a burger van  ;)
With lots of oil changes and proper maintenance  my 2.2 has come on leaps and bounds.

I then drove a 2.5 manual... i felt hardly any difference.

I much, much, MUCH prefer working on the 2.2 for engine maintenance, its just so easy to work on.

I just don't like the V6 engine.
But the 2.5 manual you have driven was poorly. Not as poorly as it is now though  :'(

Not that poorly when i drove it, just goes to show a well maintained 2.2 is as quick as a poorly 2.5 ...

Or a 2.2, especially if it has an interesting cam

That was before cam timing was done, and MAF sensor replaced. Both of those made a huge difference - with the multiram working, it would be even better.

Have you tried changing your crank sensor yet? It's a PIG  [smiley=evil.gif]

Strangely enough, I really rate it. Even when it does to bang on me :)

Still does not compute :P

My 2.5 has been well maintained - just that when you drove it, there was a duff MAF, and cam timing was out.

The 4 pots, while I really rate them as a good engine, they're not designed for speed / performance!

Hi, my driving is all urban, five miles to work and back mainly, twice a day(bloody split shifts!) It does't seem to matter how I drive it, very gentle or heavy right boot, I can never get better than 19.4mpg. Am moving soon to either the new Mondeo or a new Passat, in diesel auto spec. Should notice quite a difference in fuel consumption, but will be sorry to see the Omega go, won't know what to do with the weekends not having to lie under the old bus fixing it!  ;D ;D

If lots of stop-start, then 20mpg is about right...

I suspected that this might be normal, has been the same for the two years I have owned the car, but only doing 6,000 miles a year approx I am have happily put up with it in exchange for the comfort and performance.
