P0340 - Advice appreciated.
« on: 06 May 2017, 18:15:55 »

Hi all,

Firstly may I apologise as this is the first time I have been on the forum, and I am already asking for advice.

I lost my father 12 months ago, and I have recently been trying to resurrect his 2001 2.6 v6 Omega. The car was working fine, and there were no issues, it had been left to stand as there were other priorities at the time.

I have tried to start the car recently, and tried the following, but to no avail.

- New battery (Previous battery was dead), car wouldn't start.
- Fresh Fuel, car wouldn't start.
- Replaced spark plugs, car wouldn't start.
- Removed one coil pack, with spark plugs in situ, turned car over and no spark at plug.
- Borrowed a friends diagnostic reader, this reported P0340.
- Cleared error code.
- Replaced crankshaft sensor with genuine GM part, car still wouldn't start.
- Replaced camshaft sensor, passenger side of car (short cable) (Is there another one drivers side, being a v6?)
- Code P0340 has reappeared.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I have gone as far as I can with my own limited knowledge, but would like to see this car running again. I would equally be willing to pay someone to take a look with more knowledge than myself.

Many thanks in advance.

I think my next port of call would be checking cam timing.

Hi both,

Thank you for your suggestions. As I say I am just about at the limit of my knowledge with this. Can you please advise how to check the cam timing and also fuel pressure.

Thanks.

Hi Andy,

I did change the battery in the key, however I have just checked this and the transponder is still in the key.

Thank you for the suggestion though, it's much appreciated.

I would second Darth loo-knee if you've come to the end of what you can do.  He's in Stoke, completely bonkers eccentric, and an all round good egg :y

I had similar problems to you on my v6 but mine would start every now and again. Seems to be the fuel pump. Check that you can hear the fuel pump running.
