The family Corsa is pissing petrol.
« on: 24 April 2014, 17:41:25 »

I noticed a strong smell of petrol from our 53 plate Corsa today. Further investigation revealed a leaking fuel filter. :-\ :-\

The filter is the original, and I recently purchased a new one (£4) to replace it when I had a moment to spare.

I obviously need to do this sooner rather than later now.

Easy job?

Do I need any special tools?

Will I get soaked in petrol?

The Corsa forum  suggest that the clips are easy to break and that a seemingly small job can become much bigger.

One disgruntled Corsa owner reckons that if you break the clips then you'll need a new piece of fuel line.

The clips fit on the filter itself, not the pipe, most aftermarket filters come with new clips but I don't think the GM filter does.
There is a special set of pliers for releasing the clips, I made my own by grinding out a pair of old side cutting pliers

I think they are talking about the pipe breaking not the clips, as said the clips are seperate. These Corsa pipes tend to break at the "Y" junction and if that happens its a new pipe and i think a tank drop to fit it

Last GM one I bought for an Omega came complete with 2 new clips ;)

The first pic looks just the same as the one i had to remove from the MV6 estate the other week, and as you said fuel line did not want to come off even with correct tool :'( :'(. Needed to cut fuel line off in the end and fit a new one.  :( >:( >:( hope you have better luck than me as the Corsa has the "y" junction as you can see from your pic and that pipe on the filter looks very rusty just like the MV6 did. Sorry if that's bad news, i was under the estate for over an hour.

Oh dear, very poor maintenance Mr Opti!  ;D :y

Never had any issue removing them with the correct tools.

And if removed with the correct tools then the clips can be re-used, make sure you insert the clips into the ends of the fuel line fittings before fitting the new filter.

Local Vx dealer will change the filter for £25 inc VAT, if I provide the filter.

It may be the 2003 original but it's only had 25,000 miles of petrol flow through it....... ;) ::) ::) ::)
