Thanks guys - just got them running on an older laptop which gives me a number of region switches using InterDVD.

Will have a go at connecting laptop to tv after the football.

Interesting problem - hope someone has some ideas.

I returned from Singapore with a few genuine dvds - they are region 3 NTSC and my home theatre is NTSC/PAL/Multi. Cannot get any of them to play - just says "wrong region". I have run the mulitregion hack on my system - have tried with other players including pc - all give same result. Any ideas?

I have just come back from Singapore - those yobs would have no chance out there - drop litter - you are in a litter clearance gang, they have no chewing gum on floor, clean , everything works but quite an authoritarian system. Streets totally safe.

Maybe they have gone too far one way and we have gone too far the other where our police have no powers, no motivation and no leeway to deal with these issues positively.

For ordinary decent people Singapore is great - for thugs and drug traffickers - expect the worst. Singapore landing card says "Death to drug traffickers".

There is a balance to be had - I think you will have to install CCTV to get the evidence.

I use Pinnacle software to convert tape to DVD/HDD.

Maybe you get a big separate drive say 1 terrabyte and store it on there.

It looks as though there are no "lanes" through the grid. If you have witnesses this will be a problem if the other car has his nose in front of yours and you may find that you are responsible for not taking due care where priorities are not clear. If he hits you in the side i.e. your nose in front then he has the problem to explain - but there is no guarantee that both sets of insurers would just agree ot pay the costs of their own insureds and you would not recover your excess or other uninsured expenses. May people will just lie and in your word against theirs the insurance companies will not spend money fighting except in highvalue cases. the police will not be interested unless there is an injury,

Whilst we bemoan the loss of industrial heritage the big picture is that we are acquiring all the advances in technology that we would ever hope to achieve by importing from those who have a comparative advantage in these technologies and in labour and other production costs. Our expertise has of course been in the very high tech, financial services etc which was very successful until recently.
The outcome of this use of comparative advantage was of course that this basically  invisible sector generated lots of profits and taxes and more taxes from employees earnings which was used by poor government to fuel a burgeoning public sector with large public sector salaries and regimes which became a huge part of the import of crap/unsustainable spending and not necessarily on technologies that would benefit the nation. We waste so much money on the public sector which generates a low level of improvement of life commensurate with the money we pump into it.
If we were not under such pressure from our own governments to spend spend spend on the high street and borrow to do so and started to look at what we are doing here we may see a remergence of that engineering spirit as we actually seek to repair things as many of you on this site do - and not throw away as we are encouraged to do.

Vickery has been a disaster for a long time now - Jones deserved to start - Vickery should pack in - terrible selection error and was result critical

...... Something went wrong 4 miles from leaving dealer after fitting - dealer blamed bolts and they allegedly went to a specilaist engineer for testing. .......

I wonder if anyone got a b0ll0cking for that?  :-?  ::)

It did not end there - after new engine fitted had to go back twice with things they had not refitted onto new engine properly. They tried to sell me a new starter until I insisted they check earthing. I understand VX Luton paid for the engine and VX dealer paid for labour - 14 hour job I think it is classed as.

One member had his done at a dealership a few months ago,he got a few miles down the road and the engine went bang,They forgot to tighten something, iirc.
Yes - this was me - paidŁ270 for cambelt change. Something went wrong 4 miles from leaving dealer after fitting - dealer blamed bolts and they allegedly went to a specilaist engineer for testing. Any way it needed a new engine when the belt moved - VX paid for everything.

My wife's company made her redundant a few days ago but they have made some mistakes in the process. I have represented people before in this type of stuff and so we have appealed. Will let you know how we go on.

Unfair selection for redundancy is a very difficult area - if the employer does not take objective view then selection can be deemed unfair. The thing is - if as a manager you are not trained on this sort of stuff and HR take their eye of the ball then you can easily make big errors.

We have appealed, sent a without prejuduce letter re possible settltement and will be whacking in a grievance or two not dealt with previously. She has been there 15 years.
