Astra Cambelt change
« on: 21 December 2019, 00:55:35 »

My 2012 Astra 1.6 has done 51000 miles and is just over 7.5 years old. Dealer states cambelt should be changed every 100,000 or 6 years (but they did not pick up on it last service 12 months ago).

Having now retired I will probably sell it but possibly move it to the house in Manchester as I am using rain more to visit relatives.

Is it worth the gamble given the mileage of leaving it another year. Cost is only £269 but seems a waste if selling but on the other hand would not really want cam belt to fail for next buyer.

start saving for it now ,put away a £2 coin per week  ;D

as a buyer, i'd haggle/knock money off if the cambelt was not done (i did this week)  ::)
if it's overdue, it will put buyers off because it says "lack of basic maintenance"

I did say IF
plus there is some confusion on the interval of the later 1.6 petrol interval ,
apparently even the dealerships can't be sure   :o
A16xer engines etc

some say 10 years or 100k ,some say 6 years 100k ,some say 80k and 6 years
from the interweb
"A16XER was 10 year/100,000 Miles up until Model Year (MY) 2011 when it changed to 6 Year/100,000 Miles. It should be visually inspected every 2 Years/40,000 Miles. The service schedule was in the owners manual up until 2008"

if you have the service history book(that gets stamped) ,have a look for toothed belt interval

I looked at a few astras last week
even the car dealers didn't like "putting up with" me  :D
I know a bit about astras ,and used to inspect cars for a lease company
so i saw through seller bull**** and corrected them  ;D

Thanks to both - on Astra owners there is confusion but the 6 years/100,000 miles seems the sensible compromise. Nothing in Service Book.

The gates powergrip  kit is about £120 list price for the belt, idle bearing, tensioner ,2 bolts for those ,plus a new crank shaft bolt (which MUST be replaced )
so £270 is an ok price  ;)

Where did you get the £269 quote from, Phil? My 2.0 diesel is on 60,000 and is nearly six years old.
