On most posts by members on here at the bottom right  there is a line "report to moderator" and then "logged" where my posts seem to have the number 81.101.125.127 instead of logged and some[of mine] also have the "modify" symbol above the 127. yet others of mine don't have the modify symbol yet I'm doing the same things to all my posts,so why the differences?

If you click on "Logged" it will tell you:

Your IP address is shown only to you and moderators. Remember that this information is not identifying, and that most IPs change periodically.

You cannot see other members' IP addresses, and they cannot see yours.

81.x.x.x is your IP address.. it's not shown for privacy reasons soo.. yeah.

Just had a look and when I'm not logged in to the forum it just says logged in the bottom corner,but as soon as I've logged in to type this it has reverted to showing the numbers,so is that as it should be?

Exactly, When logged in it shows you your own internet address, (every house / business on the internet has a different one (not quite true, but does for purposes here))
Its the only address logged in memebers see.
Everyone only sees their own, so if you are not logged in, you are a guest, cannot post, so the posts your looking at arn't yours from a system point of view.
Hope that makes sense.

But, don't worry about it, its meaningless to the majority.
