General Discussion Area / Cam cover gaskets - done
« on: 25 March 2007, 18:09:59 »
Right, finished at last :)

Took me more that "2hrs to do both sides" Mr DTM!  And I only did one side, albeit the passenger one.

Seems to have stopped leaking :). Changed the plugs, and gave the throttle body up whilst I was at it. Have to try another 0 - 60 now ;).

Flushed with success, though I would change the PAS belt on the Rover, but failed, as the effing idiots sold me the wrong belt  >:( - going by the part numbers, I reckon new one is 5mm shorter.

I was tidying the garage, as Mrs TheBoy pulls up on the drive. My, my, that sounds throaty.  And due an MOT soon (have to check when).  So I guess next weekend is going to be putting on a new backbox for her  >:(

General Discussion Area / Thanks to JamesV6CDX - again
« on: 19 February 2007, 18:32:51 »
Again, I would like to say a big thanks to JamesV6CDX, and his mate Markie who probably won't see this, for taking the time to come over and do the Rover cambelt. Great guys, both of them :)

And a thumbs up from Mrs TheBoy, performance is now 'back like it should be' according to her :y

Thanks guys :D

General Discussion Area / Drax - should I take Tech2

No, I don't imagine for a minute that the Tech2 could control Drax....

But should I take it?

General Discussion Area / Tyre wear
« on: 21 March 2007, 15:44:07 »
Something odd as happened to my car.  It passed its MOT 3 weeks ago, and I know the tyres were all OK, bit low but still some miles left in them.

So imagine my surprise when parked up on full lock at the weekend I see the osf inside shoulder was worn bald.

A quick trip to Wheels In Motion yesterday to put a pair of new Dunlops on it, and the best remain 2 tyres on the front. Alas, one of those has little left either, but they found 2 of the wheels were no longer round.

Once on the machine, the geometry was way off, but we couldn't see a single reason for it - it was as if more than one setting had adjusted. Tony had no choice but to re-setup from scratch.  Fortunately, I had my old settings, so we have a base to start from.

So currently, I need a pair of MV6 wheels, and a pair of Dunlops to go on them  :'(

But, what happened between MOT and the weekend to cause such very drastic wear on the tyre - it was camber type wear, that much even I know.

General Discussion Area / Migration - any better?
« on: 09 March 2007, 19:37:26 »
Since we've migrated to the new VM on the 3rd March, has there been a performance improvement? Worse? No different?

Obviously, ignoring the fact that the W2K3 host crashed 3 days ago...

All constructive feedback welcome.

Due to being late cox all the motorways were 'dangle berries'ed, I may have got snapped by a camera van, doing 60 in a 50mph stretch on empty dual carriageway in London  :'(

General Discussion Area / Planned outage - 28/02/07
« on: 27 February 2007, 21:21:14 »
This is the first stage of a maintenence plan to move forum to new VM.  This is to fit a new disk, kindly donated by ClarCE, to host the VM on.  The current disk has been sounding like a bag of nails for a while now ::)

We expect the outage to last for around 45mins between 6pm and 8pm

We apologise for the inconvenience caused by this preventative maintenence.

Phase 2 - building the VMs - will continue over the next few days.

Phase 3 - migrating the forum to new main VM - will involve a further outage in a week or so, more details nearer the time.

General Discussion Area / V6 Cambelt party - Brackley
« on: 19 February 2007, 13:10:59 »
If anyone's v6 cambelt is due, there is going to be a v6 cambelt party in Brackley this Saturday.

Numbers are going to have to be limited do to space/time restrictions though.

Any experts at v6 cambelts prepared to lend a hand are also very welcome ;)

If you have a 4 pot Omega that needs one, see Tunnie's 2.2 cambelt party thread, being held on same day about 1/2 mile away.

Depending on numbers, we will have the BBQ on, and beer (for those local/staying/passengers)...  ...hopefully, those from Tunnie's 4 pot cambelt bash will pop along later as well :y

Please reply to this thread if your are interested in coming, and whether its to lend a hand, get your cambelt changed, or just want to pop in to say hello.

As said, places are likely to be limited.

General Discussion Area / Forum outage this afternoon
« on: 04 March 2007, 11:31:28 »
There will be an outage this afternoon as part of Phase 3 of the migration to new disks.  During this time, you will see a message about it being in Maintenence, or you will get no response ('Page cannot be displayed').

There are a number of things that can go wrong at this stage, so it may take a while.  Current testing is putting this stage at about 1.5hrs.

There will be an update nearer the time...

General Discussion Area / CDR2006 SAFE near Brackley?
« on: 02 March 2007, 21:40:12 »
Seems to be common fault, I have a theory.

Anyone near me with that fault, would you let me do a test.  If it works, you have your system fixed, if it doesn't, nothing lost....    ....you probably will need your carpass though...
