MV6 had a hissy fit last night
« on: 12 April 2008, 13:38:26 »

On the way home last night, i put the foot down a little on a b-road, then came into a town so back to 30mph and low revs, all of a sudden the engine jerked forward as though i had lifted of but it was a lot more violent, then i came to a set of lights, dipped the clutch and it dropped straight past the idle and stalled, on re-starting, it took a fair few tunes of the engine and when it started there was a seriously seriously strong smell of fuel and the engine management light came on and the fuel consumption dropped to 7-10mpg even though i was driving really slowly.

I done the paperclip test just there and its came back with:

144   Immobiliser No Signal
74   Mass Air Flow Sensor Voltage High
19   Incorrect RPM Signal

The engine wasn't on so i was expecting the 19.

any idea on how i can solve the others?

Thanks

MAF often throws a code with crank sensor. Change crank sensor, all will be well in the world.

i took the MAF apart, cleaned it and the plug and all seems well.

Should i plan to change the crank sensor anyway?

YES YES YES, and double YES!!!

The MAF fault was a ghost - crank sensor IS the problem.

30m job (using our guide on here), and £40 or £70 depending on type. So not too bad.
