FS: 2001 Facelift Omega Elite Auto
« on: 15 August 2009, 15:34:03 »

For Sale:

My 2001 (51 plate) Facelift 2.6 Litre V6 Omega Elite, in silver Automatic, FF Sunroof.

Nearly 150k on the clock - 40k of that by me in the last 4 years. Lease-car upto 100k, then 2 private owners (if I'm reading the V5 correctly)

Taxed until end of December 09, MoT until July 10th 2010. Last MoT failed on play in track-rod ball joint - obviously repaired. One advisory outstanding against it - "Suspension joint offside lower dust cover split/missing." Similar on previous recent MoTs, so signs of a car with miles on.

Now, I'm not going to beat about the bush with this - it's got to an age where I'm just running it into the ground. There's a few things to be aware of:-

1) Cambelt should be done soon - I think it's pretty much got 40k on it, and a bit over 4 years. So common sense says this needs doing with some haste.
2) Service - it basically needs one, I keep meaning to do the fluids (1 yr old), and I've not changed the plugs since owning it, so you get the idea.
3) There's some oil weeping from the right-side bank (photo below)
4) I think it could do with the breather tubes cleaning (possible cause of 3. above)
5) Tyres aren't great - they're Michellin Primacys all around, but probably only have 3k miles or so left on them.
6) Power-Sounder has *cough* dropped off, after many months of irritating blips when leaving the car.
7) I had the oil cooler replaced when I first bought the car - having found mayo in the expansion tank. There's been no problem since, but I need to explain any mayo residue within the cooling system and the colour of the expansion tank.

Alloys were kerbed when I bought the car, and with some poor attempts made in the past to buff them up. I've just lived with them for the last 4 years. The paint on the sunroof is bubbling - exposing the alloy carrier for the glass - could be stripped back and repainted easily.

I've looked at all that, thought of the costs and the age of the car and decided I'm too old to be playing under the bonnet - for me, it'd cost more than I'm prepared to spend, and after 4 years I feel like a change, and a life back in a manual box. I'm offering it here for an enthusiast to take up.

So, negatives out of the way:-

Bose sound, with 4-CD changer (CCR2006), with steering controls
MFD - no bad pixels
Electric blind
Self-tinting rear-view mirror
Electric door wing mirrors (hmmm, passenger side = horizontal sweep only - sure it used to sweep vertically, too?)
Heated seats (front and rear)
AirCon / Climate (works fine)
Electric seats (driver with memory), self-adjusting mirrors coupled to this.
Space-saver spare - looking in good condition (I've only used it once, for ~10 miles).
Xenon headlamps / self levelling
1 3-button key, Car-Pass card, owners manual and audio manual / leather wallet.
4 months tax, 10 months MoT, and depending upon when I sell it, probably 1/2 tank of petrol :)

So, there you go - an 8/9 year old car with 150k miles on it. It's not pristine, and needs a bit of TLC to bring it back to its former glory. For my own experience, apart from the oil-cooler, and a replacement starter motor, it's provided 4 years of solid, reliable driving.

Offside wing - slight dent - metal not creased, paint not perforated, could be pulled out - very hard to make out in a photo, but obvious up-close-and-personal. About the size of a 10-pence coin, and a soft dent of a couple of millimetres

Now, I'm not sure what a reasonable price is, considering the work that needs doing. I'll open up at £750 and see where we go from there.

I am, however, keen to get this sorted as soon as possible. I've already got a replacement car lined up, and I don't want to be pratting about with keeping this car insured for any length of time - and I'm bloody keen to get my hands on my new car. I'd like this to go in days, rather than weeks, and I'm looking for someone who understands the faults listed above and isn't going to spend an hour kicking tyres before walking away.

If anyone wants any more info or piccies, either reply here or PM.

Location, by the way, is Preston, Lancashire.

Bah, it seems I'm the only one at the party  :D

Okay, that didn't interest anyone, I've now got it on 7 days temporary insurance to get rid, I need it gone. If someone wants to get cheeky in the next couple of days they might get this car. After that, I'll have to throw it to the wolves on eBay, but I'd prefer someone that knows the Omega to take up the reigns.

Second gambit: £600. Hell!, the tax is worth £70 on it.

(forgot to mention, has Cruise Control, ofc).

Hi,

Could be intersted if the price was right, I take it that it still drives ok? Would be driving it back to Scotland, would you take £500 for it?

Cheers,
Iain
