Omega General Help / Screenwash reservoir removal
« on: 21 June 2018, 11:53:06 »
As per the title: is it a difficult job (for me) to remove the reservoir to give it a bl**dy good clean?

General Discussion Area / Man flu
« on: 17 June 2018, 18:59:31 »
I've just come down with man flu, which as we now all know is by far the most virulent type on the planet.
Apparently, the only way to tone down the symptoms involves Joanne Whalley in a nurse's uniform, carrying a pot of cream!
I think it's available on the NHS..... :D

General Car Chat / Ignition lock
« on: 14 June 2018, 12:20:19 »
My ignition lock is beginning to get slightly sticky and I want to follow the Guide on here to refurbish it, but I am nervous (scared!) to tackle my one without at least having a practice on an old one first.
Has anyone got an old barrel that I can f*ck up experiment on, please?
I assume I will need the key, too, in order to disassemble it?

General Discussion Area / Photos in my phone.....
« on: 07 June 2018, 21:14:54 »
Well, they are in my phone, but I can't get them out!
The phone is an elderly basic ZTE F102 and search how I might, there isn't a driver/software available anywhere on the internet.
I can take the microSD card out and read it, but that has only a few old photos; the ones I want are stored in the phone's memory jnder "My Pictures", but I can access them only in the phone itself on its little screen and they won't download to my PC.
There's so much cleverness on this Forum that somebody must know?  ???

General Discussion Area / My computer won't go to sleep!
« on: 31 May 2018, 21:04:46 »
Ok, not a life-threatrning problem, but very annoying nonetheless.
Until fairly recently, when I pressed the "Sleep" button on my keyboard (Microsof Internet Keyboard), my PC obliged by going to sleep but retaining all open documents.Suddenly, it went into a major sulk and strared to snooze and then stalled, giving thew message "Preparing to Standby" and going no further.
Any ideas from the I.T squad, please?

General Discussion Area / Returning to sanity.....
« on: 29 May 2018, 15:43:21 »
In the hope of returning the Forum to peace and good humour, I have a story against myself that might amuse.

Last Sunday (20th) I went to London to the annual Photographica camera fair, which I always enjoy, but tinged with sadness because one of my favourite stallholder told me that he had Cancer; it just shouldn't happen.
Anyway, after the Fair, I exercised my bus pass and went to Camden Lock market - wow, how crowded and all of the ethnic yummy food stalls were crowded and nowhere to sit and eat even when you got served.

Onwards to Trafalgar Square to sit by the fountains and cool off, as it was a very sunny day. Ok, that was a mistake - a diabetic with a full bladder should not sit next to fountains with statues spouting water into ponds of water!
Into the nearby National Gallery looking for a "comfort station", but none to be found.
Ugh.
The pub across the road had what I needed, but I had to buy a drink first!  :-[

Relief ensued, without accident!!!  :y

General Discussion Area / Bus lane ticket
« on: 26 May 2018, 12:28:42 »
Today I received a Penalty Charge Notification for being photographed in a bus lane. £60, 0r £30 if I paid within 14 days.
I paid.
On calmer reflection, I examined their photos and no sign of Bus Lane markings, so off to Google StreetView. Google confirmed that there were no signs either on the road itseld nor on nearby posts and I have used that part of the road (just under the rail bridge near Chelmsford station, for the Essex members) many times, along with many other vehicles. It's just a normal two-way carriageway.

I wrote to the council, saying just that, and asking for a refund of my payment.
What do you reckon on my chances of getting one?  >:(

I understand that he is hors de combat, but he seems to have disappeared from the members listing as well.
Anyone heard anything?

General Car Chat / Halfords' air con sealant
« on: 05 May 2018, 09:49:18 »
Whilst collecting my bargain £6 screwdriver set from Halfords, I had a nosey around the store and came across a sealant can (aerosol?) claiming to seal leaks in the condenser/radiator and all seals, etc.
Snake oil?
Has anyone had experience of this product, because it seems to be too good to be true - and you know the rest of that phrase! :-\

Omega General Help / Towbar and electrics?
« on: 29 April 2018, 16:14:25 »
I seem to be increasingly usung my saloon car as a van, especially as I'm transporting materials for paving/concreting my lawn to park my Omega on (driveway full of tin tent), therefore I'm thinking about adding a towbar and cheapo trailer.
Can anyone help, please?

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, but I couldn't find the wanted/for sale section - stupid, I know!  :-[

Omega General Help / She backed into me!
« on: 24 April 2018, 22:08:12 »
This afternoon I was parked in the road and a woman from the house opposite backed out of her drive straight into my offside rear light cluster.
We are going to deal with this without involving the insurance companies, for all the reasons we know about!
However, Vx say that replacement rear units are no longer available/stocked, so I wonder if any king Oofer might have one, please?

General Discussion Area / Plumbing/DHW question.
« on: 10 April 2018, 16:39:43 »
I have a basic hot water system, DHW tank plus immersion heater, which obviosly has quite low pressure for an upstairs bathroom shower. That's fine for me, as I prefer a good long soak in the bath and the pressure is good enough for the shower fitting on the bath taps for hair washing, but 'er indoors likes a shower and the standing-up height of this fitting is woefully inadequate.
Is it possible to use a pump of some sort to boost the pressure, especially as the cold water is mains fed, and therefore quite high pressure?

TIA.

General Car Chat / Ride height
« on: 09 April 2018, 14:49:05 »
Having transported a large number of paving slabs in the boot of my Omega, it may be just my imagination but it seems lower at the rear now!
What is the ride height supposed to be on a facelift V6 saloon, please?

General Discussion Area / Computer advice needed, please.
« on: 04 March 2018, 17:28:54 »
I have a new (to me) desktop computer to replace my ancient tower with Windows XP. The old PC has two hard drives, 40GB (C drive) and 160GB (E drive), both nearly full.
The "new" PC has a 1TB  hard drive and Windows 7 installed. I want to transfer the files from the old drives to the new PC, but not the Operating System. In words of one syllable, how can I best do it, please?
