Ouch!! Rear Self leveling suspension not working
« on: 02 June 2014, 14:02:14 »

Oh dear!
As we're thinking of hitching up our tourer to miggy to have a cheap break
Funds are a little scarce at present
Thought I'd check out the rear suspension by the usual method
Disconnect ball joint off the sensor arm and raise it up
Then ign on and start up but no response
I spent yesterday checking the system as best I can with my limited knowledge
I found fuse No 27 had blown I understand this protects the self level system
However a new fuse made no difference
I think that perhaps the compressor might be OK as when I disconnected and reconnected the sensor connector
There was a momentary reaction from the compressor
I'm now at a loss as to what could be wrong and would greatly appreciate any helpful info :y :y

Might be a duff switch :-\ did you reattach the arm prior to fitting the new fuse
fuse?

System is pretty basic...
12v compressor, controlled by the switch on the rear arm.
Single pipe from compressor to a t piece next to the filter and one line from the t piece to each shock.

Hi Cliffo, good to hear from you.

Might be the sensor/switch on the level arm, as the pump isn't seized.

I thought there was an ecu involved though, but switch has to be the easiest to test first.

(This from somebody that's useless with electrics btw :( )

The ecu, such as it is, is the switch :y

There's some gubbins in it to only alter the level when the car is stationary/moving at a crawl, so wires are power in, ground, feed to the compressor relay and speed pulse, and that's pretty much it... Compressor can be double checked by unplugging and connecting straight to the battery.

Was the key fully in position 2 when you checked after replacing fuse
fuse? Not meant as a rude/patronising question, but it's the king of daft bugger thing that I would do :D

The switch is actualy a Pot which measures the position of the sensor arm.

There is a micro in the sensor which can be accessed via tech 2

Hi
Thank you all for your expert knowledge :y :y
I now have a good idea of how the systems parts function ::)
With reference to the wiring colours and circuit diagrams
I should be able to do some testing :y
Thinking about it :-[
it's entirely possible I reconnected the sensor arm to do the test
But unlikely the ign switch was incorrect as I started the engine 8)
I should be able to do these checks over the weekend
So I'll hope something positive comes out of it all
I will of course come back with result :y
