;D in fuel costs alone
compare
Omega 25 MPG ,200 miles per week =£47
new mondeo 50 MPG, 200 miles per week =£23.50
Omega depreciation 3 years £0.00  ;D
ford mondeo £21k new depreciation 3 years@11k miles p/a 40% =£8400
Omega, three sets of cam cover gaskets, coil pack, hbv, timing belt, welding= £474 tops
£8400 minus £3666 (the extra fuel for omega over 3 years)=  massive saving ££££
Agreed  :y
yes, the mondeo head gasket fail will be covered by the warranty won't it  ::)

Plus, you won't miss any days at work with the mondeo  :)
???
I'm a builder, I'm NOT meant to turn up when I say  ;D

That's not good. My 14 plate 2.0 diesel astra averages 45, and I can get 55 on a run.

Is that the 2.0 petrol auto? Was looking at those, good looking car in Estate form
I think with a decent interior. But that MPG is disappointing, longer runs as well?

My Omega does 23.4mpg. Welsh hatchback says its doing 71.3,but its actually about 62. Not bad, but I still miss the old chipoil wagon.

Interesting. What sort of driving is that? My jag is returning mid to high 30s and it's the same engine, IIRC.

Not much opportunity for lunacy on my commute, I must admit. It's mostly following dawdling VAG owners at 40 MPH, but it gets a good clean out every so often within that figure.

I think I've found the replacement, though whether its better than the mondeo is subjective

Mine is the 2.0l petrol ecotec. It will do 33ish on a run, but locally only 28.6. :( Goes like stink though. ;)

When comparing cars cost of ownership against Omega or any other banger, how the newer car makes you feel gets overlooked. That comes at a price.

I owned the Omega for four months, made me miserable as hell and the missus sometimes refused to get in it and the kids said it smells weird. But it was cheap to buy and other than fuel I did nothing, not even wash it (I spent many hours inflating the tyres though)  ::)

I can live on mackeral, veg and rice and live healthily and very cheaply but it would bring me no joy. But I'd be bored or I can spend a bit more, eat out now and again which would bring me joy and get me laid  ;D

A well looked after Omega is a nice place to be and a nice car to drive. I have had passengers who owned much newer and pretty expensive cars who invariably comment on how surprised they are at what a lovely car my old Vauxhall is.

Yep,  2.0L petrol Estate Auto, very bland to drive after the Omega, but quite quick, and lots of toys, but 28.6 local, I think I got about 34 going to Scotland last year. :y
