General Car Chat / Re: BMW Engines
« on: 15 April 2020, 17:36:24 »
So in another thread we mentioned the BMW straight six engine and in the strange and slightly scary way that the internet works this Top Gear article about BMW engines popped up on my Facebook feed.  :)

Warning: A small passage within this article may cause offence to some and may be considered downright heretic by many! :o  >:(   ::)  :-X

 ;D
my first mig was a 2.5td & i bought it when it had just had its first mot & the garage i bought it from showed me some photos of racing powerboat it was all wood & he told me that it had two engines in it , same engine that was in the car id just bought. i half expected a boat to be amongst the 20.

General Car Chat / car servicing ?
« on: 14 April 2020, 00:48:13 »
just a thought about servicing a car. when my present motor was approaching a service date i would get a message on the display service due " date or 4800 mls " whichever came first. so did have the service done along with its m.o.t. my question is - how did the vehicle know its had the job done. ??

General Discussion Area / hermes tracking
« on: 09 April 2020, 14:56:37 »
i have been waiting for a delivery since march 24th. the retailer posted that he dispatched it & i should of received it by the 28th,  i know for a fact hermes have got a know contact policy at the mo but in the last week i have had deliveries, in fact i ordered a new petrol lawnmower that was due to be with me between sat 11th - tues 14th & it arrived 10am today. i have a theory re the missing goods - i ordered & paid via paypal. then the retailer bought a postal label  so got a tracking No but in reality he hasn,t got the item & is awaiting a stock delivery from china. i go onto hermes tracking at least twice a day & get " We are waiting for your parcel from the sender" also contacted the seller via paypal twice & been told be patient. anybody experience this.

Omega General Help / Re: 2.5TD Oil Level Low
« on: 09 April 2020, 14:30:20 »
This is NOT a sump off job . Remove 3 screws and you can remove the sensor. Or unplug it... its expensive to replace 60bhp or more. mine is stuck in short curcuit. but no gunk inside sensor or oil pan...
i may be wrong but i thought the actual sensor was attached to the oil pan so oil pan has to come off. i stand corrected if it isn,t so. i have an oil sensor but cant remember if i got for the 2.5td or a 2.2dti .

They have presumably charged for delivery was my point...
they have also charged me full price for goods that are reduced if you buy a certain quantity or more. trying to contact them is rubbish. 3 times i went down from a queue where i was 30th, 27th, and 19th down to 2nd (twice & 3rd once ) before getting cut off. frustrating. their email gives a chance to sort it out but is automatically forwarded to a company called Resolver which send a reply email telling one that if i wish to pursue they will do so after 13days

Guess they're delivering it then...  ::)
i have ordered some stuff from wickes & at the mo its click & collect or delivery. anyhow i paid via paypal & have been overcharged by 9.55p. has anybody ever tried to get in touch with wickes customer services. nightmare, >:( >:(

Oh yes, and last time I did I told them they could do one when they couldn't give me a next day bulk delivery slot even though they advertised that facility, with a "take it or leave it" attitude. >:(

A local firm gave me a far better, what I required, on the ball, service 8) 8) :D ;)

Maybe all that days bookings had been taken,.  Nobody likes being told, you can't have it yesterday, you'll have to wait till tomorrow, .. That's just Transport.
its not the fact i have not got a next day delivery i cannot get in touch with them re the overpayment. incidently my delivery date was set for the 20th April. nor can i amend that
Guess they're delivering it then...  ::)

General Car Chat / Re: oil change (or not)
« on: 28 March 2020, 23:07:50 »
Can you see / tell if the oil filter has been changed ? Not exactly rare for garages not to bother doing it.
will look to see , but i think i may be doing the garage an injustice, though there is signs of oil spillage where as before the engine bay was spotless

Cant see from your sig if the car is petrol or diseasal, if it's the latter then oil being black immediately after a change is not unusual in my experience.

On all the diesel cars I've had, after a change the oil is 'better' looking but you could only tell if you saw the before and after, otherwise it still just looks black.  ;D

This was true for a rover 45 2.0d, Mondeo MK3 tddi, and Volvo D5, so I assume it's true of most diesels.

On the petrol cars I've owned, the difference was much more noticeable, albeit the oil never got as black.
note what you say & it is diesel. for my migs which were a 2.5 td & 2 ,2.2 dti,s i always did regular oil changes using gm 10/40 & they all stayed pretty clean so was not sure when this present car after a very short distance it went black looking.  :y

General Car Chat / oil change (or not)
« on: 26 March 2020, 23:53:47 »
yesterday my car was put in for its mot & a service, 8.30 am. it was ready for 11.30. i supplied the oil as i wanted to make sure it was the one reccomended for the vehicle. the fitment is 3.75 ltrs & it was a 5ltr container that i left with them. my drive from the garage to home is less than 1/2ml. when i took the oil can out of my boot i noticed there was only about 3/4 of a ltr left. so i surmise it had been overfilled. i left it whilst today to check. it was up so i sucked it out with a mitivac , but i was left wondering if they actually changed the oil filter as the oil was black looking. the omegas i have had after an oil change it was quite hard to see it. its got me wondering. :-\

General Discussion Area / builders next door
« on: 20 March 2020, 15:31:57 »
the old lady that lived next door to me was admitted to hospital & after about two months she died. ( age 93 ). the bungalow has been sold & builders are in. now being in that game myself i do know when living next door you can have to put up with noise, but i couldn,t believe this . a wagon turned up with loft insulation , only 8 rolls on a pallet with polythene to protect from damp.. the wagon was equipped with its own forklift but the driver actually dumped the pallet right in the gateway which is the way into both properties. it ended up being there for three days. the only way into both bungalows was to use my driveway gates,

You must look to have deeper pockets than me  ....  :D Main dealer service for SWMBO's C3 (1600 petrol) was 195 last Nov  ;)
turned up as arranged for 10am . had trouble parking when i did had to move my car so a van could be backed off a grass verge. when i did sit down to book my car in the guy that was dealing with me mentioned that a coutesy car wasn,t available for me so i asked him what he expected me to do for 7hrs. he wasn,t bothered. i explained that i live 25mls away & also the nearest public transport took me 5mls from where i live & explained that was the reason i booked a car. still not bothered so i asked to speak to somebody in charge. guess what that person was at a staff training conference whilst thursday. anyway i didn,t leave my car . waiting till thursday , will give that service manager some stick.
