Omega General Help / Re: Test Drove an Omega, advice please?
« on: 25 February 2018, 20:36:41 »
The MOT history seems to be good with mostly worn tyres having an advisory and nothing much else. but of course it doesn't mean that the car is ok now. but truth be told if a car sounds and feels ok it usually is but if you're in any doubt get the price down or walk away. as there are several other cars out there..

I was the only one here in the house that felt the earthquake at around 2:31pm. as the floor and cupboard door and TV unit had a bit of a rattle. and apparently i'm less than 40 miles from the centre of the actual quake itself.

Might the gold elite be the one that was on ebay recently?.

To make damn sure you have enough structure left get under with a good torch and poke the chassis rails front and rear and obviously the sills. but don't forget to give the rear inner arches a good look at as well and also behind the rear bumper and suspension mounting points. which is what I never did when i bought my car from the breakers yard.....

Whatever is on the shelves of a supermarket or other shop is what usually goes in there. i don't think I've ever bought the so called quality stuff and the screen is clean enough after i've given the wipers a quick blast..

I've never bothered to fill the oil filter on any car i've ever done and found no problems at all with oil starvation.

Back in 2012 we had a new insignia sri estate and it was a pain in the arse to be honest as no matter how long I kept the revs up driving etc it would constantly be regenerating no matter how hard I drove it. and in the end was glad to take it back to the dealer and hand them the keys.

Having removed the sill covers yesterday to be pleasantly surprised at how much of the sills are still there. today I removed the rear seat base and nearside back rest along with the belt mounts to supposedly clear the way for the magical welder to do its job. although I still haven't decided whether I want to attempt the welding or get some goon to slap patches all over it..

My sisters astra just passed with its nearside mirror cover missing. but it did fail on the flexi joint in the exhaust and both track rods had excessive play .

Took it to a garage to ask how much it would be to weld up the ventilated chassis rails etc. to be told it would cost £2-300 minimum.

Omega General Help / Re: MOT time again
« on: 04 February 2018, 00:55:22 »
Well it seems that the dealer thought it worth the bother and has had the 99 elite estate "repaired" and it now has an mot for another year.. but just how well was the work done??.

Far from a bad person Ron. it proves that you have more common sense than the knobs that run the asylum.

I've still got the contitech timing belt kit I bought for the 3.2. will it go straight onto a 2.5 or is there some subtle difference between the parts.
