First thing I would do is drop the sump and check the strainer, then a couple of short interval oil changes :y

That may well cure the oil light flicker and possibly the leak as well, but a good clean up will make it easier to spot the leak ;)

I was considering that but was worried about low oil pressure being the issue and it scared me off. You watch now will probably be something simple ;D

Main candidates for oil leaks on DTi's are:-

Minor oil leaks from the head gasket area but they are so minor it's not worth dealing with.

Oil coolers (external on the DTI)

The sump pans can go rusty and it's not always spotted because the undertray covers it.

Oil filter lid / O ring not sealing.

the chap who im getting it off said its from under the engine somewhere, so other than the sump plug not being tight enough what else could it be rusty sump?

Sam

Certainly I'd look at the sump seal and everything sump related :y

Front crank seal or maybe the the rear crank seal. Sump gasket. Rusty sump. Best bet is to get it up in the air and give it a good clean then fire it up and see if it's obvious. Don't discount also oil running down from the top along the back of the block etc.

Indeed, for me a flickering oil light is a big worry as this may be quite a few things.
