Wishbones Torque Settings
« on: 22 March 2012, 18:00:47 »

Going to do the wishbones on my 02 reg Omega this weekend, I dont have a manual so could some kind sole confirm torque settings please for bolts, I understand I have to tighten front bolt once all fitted and wheels on the ground, will it have same effect if a i get car on axle stand and jack up wishbone to same level prior to final tightening?

How long should I allow, Im not a complete novice to cars but not done Omega wishbones before?

Cheers

Its not easy on the floor but as Tunnie says they must be tightened with the suspension supporting the weight of the car or they will rip up in no time :y

I found the esiest way was to get a couple of old scaffold boards.Cut them into around 24 inch lengths and nail them together to create total thickness of 4 or 5 peices.

With front bush bolt slightly nipped up run the car back and forth several times to get bush to find its correct position.Jack each side high enough to slide the wooden platform under the wheel and then make sure bacck wheels are chocked to ensure car is not able to move.

Should then have enough clearance to get under the car and torque up the front bushes and whilst under jjst check the other 2 mounting points are torqued.

Usefull platform for getting front up in the air by and extra 6-8 inches. :y

120nm plus angle tighten 30 degrees, then another 15 degrees.

Jack the car high enough to place ramps under the wheels. Bounce the suspension at the front. Then tighten bolts as above.

To be extra sure, ask whoever sets the car up for full geo, to loosen the bolts and re tighten to spec while it's on the ramp, if there's any doubt.

Only the front bolts need to be tightened wheels loaded at the correct/normal ride hight. The rear bolts can be done at Any point, same with polly bushes.
