Water leak - good news.
« on: 13 May 2012, 10:55:00 »

When I bought my 3.0 MV6 it had a cam cover gasket need replacing. I am more than aware that when things aren’t attended to, it can affect other things and so on and so on, resulting in lots of work.

Since then, it sprouted a water leak, which did worry me a little, especially as the temperature gauge isn’t working. I ran it for a while, topping up the water as necessary. I could see that the water was coming from somewhere around the centre of the left bank.
The other day I stopped and it sounds like a very angry snake had crawled under the bonnet. It turned out to be the little water leak decided it needed to be more dramatic. I had previously had visions of head gasket or god knows what else, but was trying to remain positive, especially as there had been no water / oil contamination.

Turns out that the top radiator hose had perished at the joint with the engine. New one from Opel and water level now constant.
With this good news, I treated it to a wash, the summer tyres on the Irmscher wheels and, unfortunately, also an altercation with a low wall whilst reversing with the trailer in a tight spot, resulting in a scraped front bumper. On the whole a happy bunny  :y . Bumper can be sorted.
Some pics will follow sometime soon.

A lot has polished out, but it has gone through the paint in places too.

After a little TLC today, I double checked the water situation. A blast down the road, pushing to 6000rpm in the low gears proved that I definately do not have a leak.  :y
