Air conditioning valve.
« on: 31 March 2014, 09:22:20 »

Seems to be a hot-topic at the moment.

My (high pressure?) air-conditioning inlet valve has started leaking - you can see it! It is the front-one just behind the radiator and in front of the auxhillary belt casing. Dealers quotes a fiver for the part but how do I get the old one out? (And yes, I'll get someone to drain it first!)

IIRC, there is a flat on the very top, which allows you to get a spanner on. Need another spanner on the hex moulding below it to ensure the housing doesn't twist.

15mm socket on this bit

and a 17 mm spanner on the bit it screws into so it doesn't shear off the ally pipe

Thanks. Saw the hex at the bottom but the bit further up didn't look too business like. Will try to have a look tomorrow.

Got it off. My 15mm didn't quite fit (fitting more like 14.5mm) but putting it on a slant got it off.

However, having got it off I'm damned if I can see how to get the valve out! There's a just a rubber seal at the top so I cannot get a valve key in there and underneath I can see a sort of spider-like cage that holds the valve but it just turns round and round. Anyone replaced one of these valves before? The replacement I have looks just like a car-valve.

Still not the right number  ;) he needs 52458177 and it comes with a green Viton O ring - no need to buy another like I did.  ;) You want what I posted a picture of!  8)

It's changed then from when I bought mine. Andy C supplied me with the number I gave when I was in my local dealer & 'my' parts bloke couldn't find it.

Any how, as you say Grrrr has been given the wrong part.

It's the same as an Astra G if that's of any use.  :-\

Definitely fits/works ended up buying two due to dealer ignorance ::)

Said he couldn't find it so gave me the one off the 2.5 because it looked the same.
Typical. The part number on the valve I have is 3041829.

So, the whole top part is replaced? That is a bit extravagant but makes sense. I'll give them a ring ...

Yeah, just spoken to the Stealers. He said he'd never have been able to get that from the diagram. Apparently it has been exploded off out the way somewhere.

You're both right. Andy has the old number and Al has the new one. £5.03 so not extortionate.

Thanks for your help chaps. Hopefully it'll all be sorted by the weekend ...

:y you might as well use the one you already have to replace the other valve whilst the system is empty...

That's the one the dealer gave you first time around... same as a tyre valve :y

Old one simply unscrews with a valve tool, but needs tweezers or similar to lift out, new then screws in until it stops :y
