Vosa & MOT's
« on: 09 April 2014, 19:51:14 »

Leading on from a question asked in a previous thread..............

I'm currently on a 3 week training course and VOSA DVSA as they're now known were in today telling us what they are about etc.......

So when he'd finished I asked the question a few of you guys had been asking re. 'If I get an MOT done early and it fails, will it deem the current one null & void?'

His answer was and I quote - 'If the vehicle was taken for an MOT EARLIER than in its 12th month and fails, then the result of THAT MOT WILL NULLIFY its current one, i.e. if it was taken say at month 6. If its in its 12th month of the MOT i.e. within 30 days of expiring then it will not nullify the current one.'  ??? ??? ???

However, again, this does not say that if the car has an accident in this time (due to a fault pointed out on the MOT failure sheet) you would not be innocent and not liable for any fines / court.

His talk was actually very interesting especially around HGV's and the powers they have to remove them from the road (Better than ours!!!). He also told a few funny stories about MOT testing stations & the mystery shoppers that they do with a duff car  ;D ;D ;D ;D

How can you 'not be innocent' ie guilty, yet not be liable for fines/court summons at the same time :-\

My understanding, and quote from my local MOT Man, is only if it fails on something that puts it in an un road worthy condition.

He also said MOT receipts were going too in roughly 2015-16, so you won't get anything on a pass as it will all be on-line as per the VED is going the same way.

Will they still issue reminders for both? Call me cynical, but that sounds like a plan to swell the coffers... as by definition an untaxed, un moted vehicle is unroadworthy, and therefore liable to seizure :-\

I don't like it. If I'm buying/selling, I like to see a bit of paper at the time of doing the deal. Old fashioned, I know.

I dunno, he didn't say. What he did say though is that the whole computeried system for MOT's is changing (again) which will mean more expense for the testing stations  :o :o :o So you know what that means don't ya?

MOT's are relatively cheap anyway. Testing stations do it because they hope there'll be work to follow.

So, as all info re; MOT`s and VED`s is at the click of a mouse why are cars still being used on the road with neither ???

To make it work properly, Rob, you need ANPR cameras at every junction. Can you see that happening? Even then, there are lots of cars on the road that have no registered keeper.

Beats me.

Possibly shrinking budgets, no staff, no morale, having to re-apply for your job constantly when the annual cull comes round, focus on "Real" crimes?????
