I'd want quite a few Ariston Linn LP12s for that much, too. ;D

Seriously, how can they justify that price? NO vinyl could ever sound so good as to warrant it, and coulkd it possibly perfom about 1,000 times better than a Garrard Zero 100?

Blimey, you have to pay 1,000 to get one that plays 78's!  :o :o ;D ;)

Bit different to when I bought my first 78 gramophone for 2/6d ;)

I have a Dansett lurking around somewhere!  Bag of sand anyone?  :y

Because the fools with their gold plated "Hi Fi quality" power cables and speaker cables as fat as your arm will happily pay it to believe in their own mind that the sound is superior to anything anyone else has ever heard...

By the time they can afford such things, Aaron, their "Golden Ears" will have deteriorated to such an extent as to make it pointless - if it ever was?
I'm thinking "Emperor's New Clothes"......

 ;D ;D Golden ears.. I like that phrase :)

Audiophiles would cringe - the only time I ever listen to music is either the radio in the car (at least it's DAB, I suppose) or streaming services on laptop speakers :-X

Worth a try. It could only improve the sound. ;)

Exactly this. The Hi-Fi press in the 80's raised this turntable to legendary status with their superlative reviews whilst the Japanese manufacturers quietly got on with more important things like not driving the platter with a manky elastic band and not making the plinth out of old fruit cartons.  ;D

Meanwhile, the upgrades started rolling in for the "golden eared" folk and suddenly an already overpriced turntable had to be spec'ed up to cost a 5 figure sum before your peers in audiophilia would respect it. ;D The madness continues to this day.

A better option would be to buy a 2nd hand Japanese direct drive for 100. They are all bomb proof, and they all sound great after a drop of oil on the spindle bearing and a check for play in the tonearm bearings.

Im having Gold Plated Flaps fitted to my Ears soon, meaning I can listen to Digital 0's and 1's directly without the need for any of this Analogue stuff.  :)

If that works out, I probably do the Laser Eye Surgery thing so I can read CD and DVD's directly.  :D

Digital? Oh, dear. That "sucks the life out of the music", apparently. ;D

Too quiet and clinical, whereas it it sounds like it is being played next to a bowl of freshly made Rice Crispies that's an authentic warm vinyl sound. ;D ;D ;D The crackles and pops sound even better when played through an 18k turntable, apparently. ;D ;D ;D

Finally got off my arris and dug out some of my old vinyl albums. Had horrific mains "hum" when the turntable first fired up but wiggled a few leads and all ok. Had a lazy afternoon, (tooth extraction this morning-- aagh)  ::) Listened to some Moody Blues, Marillion and Barclay James Harvest, with the brilliant John Lees. Made a great change from the crap on the telly. Oh the joys of being retired. :y
