p0171
« on: 06 March 2018, 19:17:04 »

This has come up on my audi 1.8t petrol. Car still runs great. I have done a bit of googling and it came back with maf,air leak,02 sensor.
I cant see any split hoses.
would it be just a coinsidence that iam on my second tank of esso 98 oc really cold weather.
How do i check maf..
Code reader said it was lean on bank 1. Would this be the 02 sensor before cat.
can i keep running the car until i can fix the problem
Thanks for any help iam a bit stuck down here for help..

Any running issues?

Being a 4 pot, bank 1 is the only bank ;)

Are there two sensors on the exhaust, or just one?

No running issues noticed.
2 sensors 1 before cat 1 after, thats what i understand after reading on google. Just trying to find out if the one i can see in the engine bay is the one the code is on about.

If running OK, then unlikely to be the maf. How's the exhaust?

Yes. (P0171 will be B1S1) That said, as DG implies, the reading reported by the sensor can be both the cause and symptom (of a different cause)..

If the sensors are the same, you could swap them over to see if the fault changes ;)

Right changed the 02 sensor with a bosch one, cleared the code and the following day the code came back. Whats the best way to find a air leak. I have looked but cant see any splits. Also is it worth while cleaning the maf and if so how do you clean it. I also read it could be fuel filter would this cause the code

Just driven my 50 miles to work on a roads light has not come back on. Am i correct in thinking it cant be maf or air leak as the drive this morning would have put the light on again
