Fools rush in...
« on: 11 June 2018, 19:56:32 »

My light switch is really rather manky so, when I saw a brand new OEM switch on offer at a very reasonable price, I jumped in.

Got it wrong.  :-[ :-[

The blank is not spring-loaded. Does the existing switch come out as a mini unit? Not sure I'd want to play around with tiny springs as I am ham-fisted.  ;)

Obvious from underneath  :y

Thanks. I'll take a look, though removing the old unit is not easy. Tried by using two old credit cards down the sides, but it wouldn't budge. Think I need more brute force! :y

Access to remove the old lightswitch gets better if you remove the end cap of the dash first. Then at least you can kind of see what your doing on one side, and can push a little on the back of the switch. As for the new switch without front fogs i suspect the circuit board inside will be missing the green indicator led that illuminates when the fogs are on. At least that what i found out when dismantling a switch with only rear fogs. The backlight in the fogswitches and adjuster wheels are done by a normal bulb on the rear of the switch unit, but the indicators for foglights on (green and orange) and the light in the light switch itself are handled by three leds on the circuit board inside. Switches without front fogs will most likely be missing the green led for them to.

Edit: just remembered that fl omegas may not have the green led in the switch as the pfl has? But a symbol in the dash instead? Never owned a fl. If thats the case and your car is a facelift then ignore everything i said:p

Ignore everything he said  ;D

Except the bit about popping the end cap off to ease it out from behind once you have stuffed the credit cards back in... Use the new switch for reference.

The blank can be made to work as a switch, but requires a the internal gubbins... Electrically the single switch is identical to the twin...

Get it done and all will be clear :y

It wasn't just the face lift cars with the tell tale light on the dash, my MFL also had the tell tale on the dash  :y

Just need to look at where the retaining pins are on the replacement unit then head for them, I normally use thin butter knives to get them out, once you get the hang of it or had removed a few you can normally get the whole light module out in less than 10 seconds.  ;)
