well my PFL has turned 20 so assumed it would be easy to get a limited mileage second car classic policy

not despite there being less than 55 manual mv6s on the road they don't class them as classics at my broker,

anyone found a broker who does?

Doubt you will.

And if you used one of those stupid gay lookup sites like howmanyleft, be aware, they talk complete, utter nonsense.

I think most insurers only do classic policies on cars that are at least 25yrs old although some makes[Jaguar for example]can be got on a classic policy at anything over 5yrs old :o A couple of things to note is that classic policies don't accrue a no claim discount so after 2yrs you lose any ncd you've got on that vehicle unless at the end of year 2 you insure it on an "ordinary" policy for a year and are usually quite mileage limited. Some brokers/insurance companies do an sort of intermediate type of policy called a cherished car policy.

Not exactly classic quote though at that price, I'd want half that if it's hardly used.

I've just renewed my 3.2 and paid less than 320, that's 10k miles, commuting into London.

I'm guessing Glasgow is more expensive than Surrey ;)

I am with Ageas via the AA and they have stated Omega's cannot be classed as "classic".  Therefore, as others have said, I am sure that the car must be at least over 25 years old to qualify for that status.

However, Ageas allowed me to place a value of 4,000 on mine.  That was very useful when I had my prang the other year, as they allowed 1,700 to repair my car, rather than the 'book' value to write it off.  It also helped that I was able to challenge them to find another like for like car with the equivalent mileage, condition and total package!  They just agreed to pay me to repair the car, which actually cost a little more than that as I took it to a specialist body shop who operate at the highest standards and worked with me to keep my Omega on the road. ;)

I'm not sure that doing 22k a year in an MV6 with class 1 business use, making up 18K of those miles, is EVER going to allow me to get it insured as a classic.

Wife has an 1997 mk1 MX5 insured as a Classic with 3000 mile limit. Last year it did 300 miles which is just pointless really.

I think it was the one Lizzie is with that I had my last Senator B with on a "cherished car" policy where you could get agreed value on the car.

Jeez, and I felt bad that I'd only done ~5k in the BMW ;D

I paid about 340 for two Triumphs, a 2000 and a 2500, plus a 2001 Omega 3.0 elite with RH Insurance. The Triumphs are on 3000 miles p/a and the Omega was on 6000 miles, I have since sold it and got a refund of just over 200 on the Omega policy a month after renewal in July this year. I added the Omega to the Triumphs policy when it was almost eleven years old back in 2012, but I'm not sure if they are offering those rates and terms to new customers today.
