Fireworks at midnight
« on: 31 December 2018, 19:45:24 »

I thought that was the general idea on New Year's Eve. But the Jeremy Kyle fodder have been at it for a couple of hours already round here. What is the connection between a lack of intelligence and loud bangs?
Answers on a postcard please.

WTF do people need to set off fireworks at unsocialable hours, ie midnight.

Any oppser doing so should be immediately culled.  I'm sure if I ramped up the bongo bongo tunes to full power at midnight, the ol' bill would be round.

I'm hoping my tee shirt is here by Wednesday, so I can wear it when I take the dog out. Everyone will be shaking hands and  'Happy new year' ing. My tee shirt will declare 'New Year, Same Old Shit'.

Illegal here and cannot be bought over the counter, wonder why ?
Expect to see a controlled display at midnight which to be fair is beautifull against the mountains down here.
I don't miss all those idiots who " light up the sky with Standard fireworks "
Enjoy yourselves and have a good New Year.

I've just got home from ringing the old year out, and the new year in. Ringers have been doing this for about 400 years, and we brought friends along to join the party.

Hopefully the revellers along Rochester high street weren't too confused by us fading out 2018, chiming Midnight and firing in 2019. Then we continued the party in the ringing chamber.

Our visitors stood on the cathedral roof, watching the fireworks over Medway listening to traditional ringing on a lovely 10 bell ring.

Ah, but had I chosen to live by a church, I wouldn't have a leg to stand on if I was woken by bells at midnight.

But to be woken by stupid, pathetic little poppers at midnight, just because the antisocial wankstains think everybody should be up to see the New Year in, is annoying.  And I bet they would be the first to complain if I got home at midnight on a Friday night after an evening down the pub, singing at the top of my voice :@

Yes, Tigger, we will still be in Europe. Because it's a continent (or should that be incontinent), not a political bloc.
We won't be in the European Union, hopefully  :)

On the first day of the London Blitz, the 7th September 1940, over 300 tonnes of bombs were dropped by the Luftwaffe on the East London docks and surrounding area.  30,000 tonnes of bombs were dropped by the Germans on Britain during the Blitz from September 1940 to June 1941, with over 40,000 killed  :'( :'(;)

It is because of German inefficiency, arrogance, and plain stupidity, that they failed to take control of Great Britain, and Russia for that matter.  If the Luftwaffe had continued to bomb the RAF airfields...If the Kriegsmarine had been able to build hundreds more advanced U-boats instead of building obsolete battleships and battle cruisers............. If the German Sixth Army had been allowed to go straight to Moscow and not be split and diverted...........oh, so many "If's" that thank God never happened and has been consigned to counter-factual history!!

No, German arrogance and political dogma over-rode any great efficiency gifts they had.  :y

We'll never know what might have been. For instance, if Adolf had managed to overrun Europe, would the great America experiment have included Berlin as well as Hiroshima and Nagasaki?

Or, would The Man in the High Castle have been a true historical documentary, rather than a work of fiction.

Incidentally, I don't know what the comparison is really like (I wasn't alive 78 years ago), but it sounded like the bloody blitz here from 11:45 to 01:30am, which meant the dog was going mental with fear all that time  >:( and he got to sleep with us (the manipulative little sod ;D).. or, rather, he got to sleep, and we got to be repeatedly kicked out of the bed by his gangly legs!

Yes. I think that's the main reason that I get upset. It was 3 o'clock before our dog finally stopped shaking.

Now after adopting a more sinister and insidious approach their goal is within grasp via Brussels .
Leopards and spots ........
Only, this time, the rest of Europe seems willing, if not eager, to accommodate them.

You mean a Fourth Reich sorry, Federation of European [German] States?  Yep, maybe, very possibly as even the French have lost their historical hatred towards the old enemy! :o :o :o ::)

So much for German efficiency  ;D

It's a shame we couldn't have a bit more of that German efficiency to remodel the East end again., Would probably upset somebody's human rights.
Just the east end?  Everywhere inside the M25 as a minimum, surely

Not a lot wrong with that London, apart from quite a few of the people who live there.  :)
Btw, much of the East end has been remodelled in the last decade. Most of it is now hideously expensive and very trendy.
It weren't like this when Ronnie & Reggie were around.  ;D

Yes Albs, including the school that I went to in Mile End (Coopers), which was redeveloped 3 or 4 years ago into very expensive flats with free parking off-street in what used to be the playground!

*except the parking and electricity will be very expensive ,not free, and no petrol ICE (except those in museums )  :(
