The deals do work for some people.

For example, big bro (being a bit radio rental) likes his big Mercs, but is sensible enough to not want one beyond a couple of years old.  So he gets a 2 year deal or a few hundred quid a month, and hands back at the end.

The 16k he pays over 2yrs is far less than the depreciation on buying one...

What of the deposit?
None, unless he wants to tick the options list.

Ok.....so 16000 over  2 years is around 700 each month........so not buttons.

But as mentioned there is the depreciation to be considered.

What Merc does that money give him? ........not a 2 litre derv, I hope. :)
This year, a 3l soot chucker.

Doesn't your brother have a business? Can he not use the car for company business and get a tax write off?
He can, but then gets butt raped with personal tax.  So its all swings and roundabouts.

Unless you want to go full milk float, Company Car tax (if you're a higher rate tax payer at least) is absolutely epic, to the point where I don't know why anyone who can operate a calculator would choose to have one.   :-\

Milk float doesn't work for him, he'd spend his entire life at motorway service stations, and time is money...

I've just put a deposit on the old Omega that's on the forecourt advertising the scrappage offer, after reading all your comments seemed like a good idea.😀😁😂

That's the reason that you know the whole offer is a crock of shite. Anyone can buy an old banger for 50 and get 4000 off a new car. They might as well just put a sign up saying 'Four grand off'.

Do Vauxhall produce anything worth buying new?  :-\
Does any mainstream manufacturer make anything worth buying new? Just been looking at the astra K 1.6 cdti estate, 27K for the elite. In three years and 30,000 miles you will get one for 8-9K.

Hard to imagine anybody being retarded enough to pay that. :-\
I paid 4500 for an Omega, now that probably does qualify me for a padded cell..!

you paid a premium , but that included a private plate, provenance of history etc
Omega prices are slowly going up for decent cared for cars.
Vauxhalls will never command the money that rusty old Fords make though , ;D
but many people pay for brand new cars and loose 5k in depreciation in one year alone  ::)
you have a 4.5k toy ,look after it and enjoy it    :)

That is one of the very few Omegas that could turn out to be a reasonable long term investment.  :y

Every Omega I've had has been a decent investment IMHO.  The first cost me just under 3200 in 2003, and served me well for 14yrs.  Thats less than 300 a year depreciation.  TBE cot a little more, though sub 4k, and is still giving good service.  All the others I've made more back from by selling than I paid.

But none were destined to be a classic in 30yrs ;D

A one off Bugatti wouldn't be destined to become a classic after being driven by you for a few years.  :D

Thanks for your reassurance, it all helps. I know it's probably the closest I'll get to a road going toy, all the others are track only. It drives better than most of the Lotus Carltons that I get to work on and look at what they are supposedly "worth".
