I was really bored, so I watched it. It was ok, better than LeBlanc and crew, but wouldn't make a point of tuning in.
They will never get near matching the early series with the three musketeers.

Given it was their first show together, I would rate it as excellent, quite watchable and enjoyable

The best bit was when got out of his car without trousers on.  Apart from that it is just playing with their toys still, but at least it stops them playing with something else!!

I suspect that once the novelty of new presenters wears off, Flintoff and McGuiness will become pretty irritating. The other fella is already irritating.

 Original top gear when it first came out was the best. They actually tested cars on what matters not just how fast they could go .the later series with clarkson ,May and mr Hammond was a joke realy . Only James May seemed to actually have any interest in how things actually worked and has done some good tv shows solo since top gear. The other two were just clowns.!.

Going up to Thornton-le-Dale again in August. I checked that there were no auctions during the week we are there. It might be nice to watch on the telly, but it's mayhem on the day.

Unfortunately this sums up everything that is wrong with the sexism arguments as you can't have it both ways. Certainly there should be absolutely no reason to not understand something or do something due to gender.

Thought it was genuinely funny.

I thought the model 3 test was a bit of pro-fossil sleight of hand. Given they put it up against more expensive metal (£20k more in the case of the Merc).

I rather think it would have murdered the 3.0diesels the big Germans will sell you for the same money as the Tesla.

but .... . The Tesla looked a great car (apart from the 21" plasma glued to the dash) and was very quick, but the range and time to fully charge would still be a concern for me. What do you do when your electric car's battery is all but flat, you need to go to work 25 miles away & you'd forgot to put your electric car on charge last night? Work will only let you use that excuse so many times.
Hybrids though ...... I could accept one of them.

I agree. I see the cost saving as a trade off with how organised you need to be, unless you have a supercharger on your route to work. Which most people don't. Ultimately, given the average distance people drive in the UK, charging something like the model 3 would be less than a weekly event, so you'd have to be pretty forgetful

If you factor in the cost of fuel, I suspect you'd be lucky to run a 3.0 from one of the big 3 German brands for the cost of the Tesla. That said, the interior on the Tesla is only nice and good quality by American standards, the Germans are a significantly nicer place to sit. 

My problem with hybrids is their complexity. You have all the bits of an ice car, plus the (admittedly generally reliable) HV motor, plus a trick diff to worry about.

The diff, motor(s) and driveshafts could hypothetically be fitted to any RWD car with a subframe.

Want to drive your Omega in 20 years time? About £15k will see it done... Not sure what the range (probably better than a 3.2 ) would be but a 400v battery pack and a 90kw motor should be fine in an Omega as it will still be lighter than the Model S

Oh, and the 40" iPad is shrunk down to a far more manageable double din sized screen...

OK, the running gear is probably a bit more crude than that in a Tesla (a couple of effing great series wound motors and a bootload of Li-Ion).

Some do but most drive a single axle for cost reasons.  The i-pace has two motors one for each pair of wheels.  The leaf motor sat in the place of the engine and drove the front wheels through a diff (with a fack load of torque )

The Omega wouldn't be my first choice for a conversion.

Remove the drivetrain from a Mercedes W140 chassis and you've a a world of possibilities... Easily get six battery packs along the tunnel or behind the rear seat where the 100 litre fuel tank lived.

Plenty of space under the bonnet for the electronics and cooling too.

Rear end of the Model S isn't dissimilar to the S Class... Separate subframe mounted in four corners, multilink suspension with self levelling/adaptive damping.

Also, the performance figures for the P85 are pretty much the same as the S600. Which is nice.

That's because its an engine replacement unit which pics up the engine structural points, its an interesting bit of kit to see in the under flesh..

It's one of those products where if they said £50k plus the donor car, or £150k plus the donor car, neither would surprise me.
