OMEGA CD 3.0 TURBO
« on: 08 October 2019, 15:39:35 »

Since the launch of Omega in Brazil in 1992, I have dreamed of this car. In 2004 I finally bought one of the first models manufactured. Unfortunately it was not treated well by the former owner. In 2009 I was forced to rectify the C30NE block and headstock and as I use more for travel and tours, the engine is currently only 25,000 km driven. Before Omega I had other cars, but one of them, VW Apollo, had the brave AP 1.8 engine, which I had to prepare with turbo. In March 2019 I finally did another project: my dream car with turbo. Below the key scenes of the process:

TURBO HOLSET HX-35, 50/63:

PANDOO PRO INJECT PROGRAMMABLE INJECTION:

DISPLACED BATTERY FOR CARRIER:

REPLACEMENT OF WATER PUMP AND 12 BLOCK STAMPS, NOW ALUMINUM, MADE TO MEASURE:

EXHAUST COLLECTOR PURCHASED ON THE "CUSTOM" INTERNET THAT NEEDED TO BE MADE TWICE:

WASTE GATE VALVE PIPE HAS BEEN REMOVED AFTER THIS PHOTO, LACK OF SPACE:

PRESSURIZATION PASSES UNDER ENGINE:

WATERCOOLER AND ITS COOLING SYSTEM:

IGNITION WITHOUT DISTRIBUTOR AND WITH 6 VW UP COILS:

C30NE TURBO:

PRO INJECT CENTER MOUNTED ON PANEL:

LAMBDA PROBE DISPLAY WIDE BAND FUELTECH:

ORIGINAL EXHAUST DAMS REPLACED:

NEW PAINT ENGINE COVER:

Engine, clutch, differential, transmission use original parts. Air conditioning, much needed in Brazil, was maintained. It is managed by the original injection, which works together with the Pandoo injection. The watercooler is very efficient. At low speeds, the intake air temperature reaches a maximum of 39 į C, even on very hot days.

Internal fuel pump, 12 bar
65 lb / h injectors
Air filter K&N in box
1 bar pressure
300 HP
45 kgf
Fuel Ethanol

Ethanol in Brazil you find in every gas station. Depending on the state costs between 30 and 40% less than gasoline. It's cost-effective, it cleans the engine inside, has more octane, you can use more turbo pressure and the engine runs cooler in the combustion chambers. Our regular gasoline has 27% mixed anhydrous alcohol, not recommended for pressure above 0.7 bar. Another option is premium gasoline, which costs twice as much as Ethanol. Long live the Ethanol, kkkkkkkkk!

The small reservoir with the brown cap at the top left of the photo is gasoline. Cold engine you press for 1 second a key on the panel (may be automatic system, but prefer the simple system), the start happens easily.

Unfortunately, wastgate lacked space, we were required to use pop off valve. Pictured above is near the upper left side of the radiator. You hear two sneezes. The pop off sneezes first.

In my previous car, between the years 2000 and 2004, the first month, I tried to use regular gasoline at 0.8 and there was pre detonation. I switched to ethanol and used 1.8 bar. Some friends used between 2 and 2.5 bar without much problems, except the transmission gears, which broke kkkkkkkkk. Today this does not happen because there are good manufacturers of forged gears around here.

Just had a look at worldwide ethanol production.

USA top, then Brazil ( made from sugar cane), then European Union with around a sixth of that of Brazil . Never seen it on sale in Spain but maybe it is described as bio diesel in which case I have.

Is the gearbox of the 3.0 12V the same as the 3.0 24V?
I'm curious to know, if I decide to increase the power, kkkkkkkkk.

I don't remember whether it was the Americans or the Europeans, but the idea of adding 15% gasoline to ethanol is excellent to make it easier to start the cold engine. Here, a few days a year are cold, we only have E100 at the gas stations. Only in the newer flex models have automakers been able to eliminate the gas tank for cold-start engines. With programmable injection you can choose to start cold without gasoline (pulsing the injectors), but on cold days (between 5 and 15ļC in my city is cold, kkkkkkk) was not efficient, requiring many attempts for the engine to run. In my car, problem solved with additional gas tank. I hope the option of using the E85 will be universal in Europe. In addition to polluting less, the engine gets more powerful.

I've seen Youtube videos of a Brazilian drift driver who adapted the manual gearbox of a Blazer V6 in Omega 3.0. I am curious which other gearboxes are compatible.

Dear friends,

I have been looking for the rear spoiler of the Omega GSI for a long time, but it is very difficult to find. I found a manufacturer around here, which made a very similar customized spoiler in fiberglass.

Apparently you need the gearbox from the Omega B, 2.2 Diesel, which are the strongest manual RWD gearbox in the Vauxhall/Opel range aside from the Holdens and or ZF 6 speed in the Lotus Carlton.

The rear spoiler really does set the car off well. I believe the Lotus Carlton/Lotus Omega A used the six speed gearbox that was also used in the Chevrolet Corvette.

The previous rear spoiler installed in my car is from our Omega CD 4.1. I am happy to make my car similar to the GSI and different from the others here. Now I intend to stick the chrome details with black vinyl. I am also a big fan of Lotus Carlton (as far as we know, only 2 came to Brazil). Its gearbox is from the Corvette and the differential is from the Holden Comodore (our Omega kangaroo) V8. I think it would be practically impossible to get a Corvette gearbox. When I upgrade the engine and increase the turbo pressure, in place of the Getrag R-25, I will have to use a diesel vehicle gearbox, such as the Omega TDI or use the BMW M3 gearbox (much easier to find around here than the Corvette). :y :y :y

Davies, the state where I live (Minas Gerais) is quite hilly and the roads winding. The 225-35R20 tires greatly increased cornering stability. My 6-cylinder turbo project started in 2015, when I bought the exhaust manifold. In the following months I continued to buy the pieces without haste. At the beginning of 2018, I finally met a friend mechanic who was preparing the engine of my previous car (between 2000 and 2004 I had another car, a VW 4-cylinder turbo engine). This professional indicated me some missing parts: programmable ECU, injectors, fuel pump and finally, in April / 2018 he started the preparation. There were some unforeseen events, the main one being the "tailor-made" exhaust manifold, which had to be redone 2 times. As I was not rushing to finish the job, he worked calmly and Omega was ready in March / 2019.  :y
