This is merely to remember all those innocent people who perished on that terrible day, those who were injured and those who still suffer.

I still find it hard to believe it happened. Another one of those times I shed a few tears for the innocent and brave.
God Bless.

It is one of those dramatic dates in history - man on the moon, Elvis dying and so on - we will always remember what we were doing  :'(

Thanks for posting, I didn't know anyone who was killed/injured but I always take time to remember those who perished on that day just doing their job.

...I was celebrating my birthday and they keep trying to spoil all the subsequent ones! ;D ;D

Maybe that's too frivolous for a serious thread?  I have to admit to being stunned when I watched the carnage deliberately inflicted.

There was a lot more going on than met the eye.  If anyone thinks it was a "single issue" event they are way off the mark.

Re the OP:
The men and women who knowingly gave their lives to save others will always be held in the highest esteem in my mind.  Others who offered their lives and survived, too.

Thanks for posting, Zulu.

I remember the day vividly, and the degree of shock I felt.

Terribly sad to hear the final phone calls of those trapped (last night on TV). Indeed, I couldn't watch it all.

A day to remember the innocent victims, including those who are less well covered by the media: the passengers, including a young child, in the hijacked aircraft.  :'( :'(

We were stood at the top of the towers on the 10th of August 2001, and sat at home on Sep. 11th in utter bewilderment and shock watching the horror unfold.
One thing which keeps coming back to me is the fact that there was a restaurant at the top which was staffed almost entirely by kids in their teens/early twenties. They were friendly, happy go lucky youngsters who seemed to have not a care in the world.
I very much doubt if any of them got out alive. :'(
I can vividly remember looking out of the windows, and thinking to fall from that height would be unimaginably horrific - they were approx. twice the height of Canary Wharf tower, so to see those poor souls jumping from the windows because, presumably it was a better option than burning to death, was very difficult to comprehend.
It will never cease to amaze me just how evil mankind is capable of behaving. :(

I remember watching it unfurl.....watching it on a 55" TV screen made things seem even closer to home. :'(
We were speechless.....how could anyone do these things. Many tears were shed that terrible day around the world. :'(

Please, may anything like it not happen again  :'(

Since the subsequent invasion of Iraq (although the US and UK had never actually stopped bombing Iraq since the "end" of the smarter Bush's war in '91) just taking figures from 2003 there's been 1.2million civilians killed in Iraq alone, now aside from the fact that the terrorists responsible for the 9/11 atrocity were Saudis and Iraq had nothing to do with it, by my reckoning the death toll from 9/11 (around 3000) has been inflicted on Iraq 4 or 5 times a month since 2003. So yes, it was a tragedy, yes the police, fire crews, emergency services were unbelievably heroic but let's get it into perspective  :o

So everyone wishing and "praying" this never happens again, but sorry, it happens weekly....just not in the States  :(

What has that to do with remembering those who died 0n this day in New York cem?

This thread was about them, should either you or BJ wish to start a thread on the war in Iraq or Afghanistan please do so - I'll be more than happy to contribute.
