Facelift LPG - Emergency Boot Release
« on: 08 July 2008, 12:15:24 »

The emergency boot release on a facelift saloon :

Those who have a large LPG tank in the boot will have realised that there is no access to this release.

This is my solution ......

I purchased a puppy training lead, some large D-rings and some "sticky pads" - these will be replaced by self tappers once I'm totaly happy with the positions of the D-rings - total cost about £10

The puppy lead extended looks like this

I cut off the nylon strap to leave the attachment loop

This was fed through 2 D-rings and attached to the release handle

The D-rings are in temporary positions - the one by the rubber I'm still not quite happy with as the cord is just rubbing on the seal

The lead is "sticky pad" stuck to the tank

And is easily operated

I now know that should the motor fail, or I lose electrics to the boot, I can still gain access.

HTH  :)

I think that without the Bose shelf I might be OK but it's a nice solution. :y

Hi Nigel,
Who's a clever little boy, then?
Nice job, especially if you can improve the route over the bootlid seal. Is there a small pulley that could replace that particular D-ring to give sufficient clearance?
Hope you and Chris are both well.
Bill.
