« on: 31 March 2010, 16:34:41 »

Still have this fault codes coming up, someone suggested either cleaning mass air flow meter or vac pipes, vac pipes all seemed fine and I had the pipe off after the air filter to check meter which looked spotless,
Am I missing something? could this be anything else?

Side note I also had missfire codes on cylinder 2 and 6 which has led me to change the ignition coil pack, there was a bit of water in the back two but as the coil packs had been previously eroded could this of let the water in?

just started up perfectly, will miss fire codes go or do they need clearing?

I think that the misfire codes will disapear after a few start ups,if not you will have to get them deleted

You can not determine visually if MAF is faulty and cleaning is very seldom the cure. New ones available for 50-100 EUR and replacement is known as the only cure for 0170&0173

With that in mind, what harm if any is there if not sorted?

At first, no harm. For a longer period, the engine is running on wrong mixture which is based on the "basic" air-fuel- figure due to lack of/wrong information from MAF. Possible failures/problems in the future are same as mis-tuned carburator in the old days, dirty spark plugs, poor running, higher fuel consumption, busted cats (fuel getting to catalyzers). Cats would be the issue to me to change the MAF. Save a few pence now and spend thousands replacing cats (all four on 2,6)

Ok would want someone to confirm it is at fault before spending £100 on a plasic pipe with a small meter inside :-?

Also If I had not had missfire problem and checked codes how would I of known this problem existed! :-/

Given your location, I'd be tempted to see if a certain admin is available to put tech2 on it before changing parts at random, potentially introducing more faults ;)

Last year my 2.6 CD got the same exact codes, turned out i had some corrosion on the face of the sensor in the MAF, even though the tech 2 said the MAF was working ok.

I got a replacement MAF for £30 - £40, i know some people on this forum only say go for original vauxhall parts and the cheap ones tend to give up soon after fitting. However have had mine for the past 5 months and it seems to be still going strong.

As KCL says it could effect further parts of the exhaust system. Soon after fitting the MAF the emission light came on again and I got the dreaded 420-430 Cat efficiency codes.

I think it happened because i drove the car for quite a few miles before i changed the MAF, so it has been quite a few worrying weeks thinking I might need to change the Cats.

Out of desperation i tried Cataclean in the fuel several weeks ago and took the car for an italian tune up.

Nothing seemed to work straight away but last Saturday the codes cleared themselves and the Emission Light is no longer on and has stayed off.

I have my MOT at the end of this month so will find out then if the Cats are working properly.
