Oh dear, Exploding exhaust!!!
« on: 07 August 2011, 23:18:10 »

Just had the fright of my live driving home from work  :o :o :o
Driving down the motorway on me way home from work minding me own business, thinkin about that nice cool beer at the end of a hard day when........... KABOOOOMM!!!! Large puff of black smoke and engine sounding like Brian Blessed on acid!!!!!  ;D ;D ;D

Luckily I was about 1/2 mile from the exit I wanted to come off at, so I limped it off the m/way and had a quick look underneath. The rear silencer had exploded out the left hand side seam right next to the petrol tank  :o :o :o
Me thinks it could have been so very very worse. I got home & had a proper look underneath at it & its well & truely mullered and hasn't given any previous warning. From what I can see there's no damage to the petrol tank either (luckily) 3/4 full!

Anyone any ideas for the best place to order a 2.6 2002 v6 back box near to Manchester????

Eternal car on eBay...   Last I heard anyway. I realize that's not near Manchester, but they seem best value.

So I take it there was a blockage...?

To be honest mate I don't really know if there was a blockage or not, I guess there must have been. Never had a car do that to me before, certainly woke me up  ::)

Not just me then. Mine blew in exactly the same way and in the same place, right down the back box seam. Was joining M4 from A34 on an uphill slip. Flat down in 1st then 2nd, changed to 3rd & BOOM. Like you said ive never had an exhaust go this way but had a lot more power after it blew ;D  All sorted now - i was in a rush and couldn't wait for the above recommended suppliers so bought this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAUXHALL-OMEGA-2-5-94-99-Exhaust-Rear-Back-Box-GM175V-/290396964062?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item439d0204de  Good fit, fast delivery, little bit rough cut round the tail pipe, seen better welds, sounds meaty but does a good job. This add is for the saloon back box.

I used this exhaust a few weeks ago .It took about 6 days to arrive but that was with a weekend and think it was in uk, and was delivered 07.15 in morning on the monday.all fixings supplied & exhaust paste.Tracking No supplied aswell. The box's had a P stamped on them ,maybe someone may recognise the marks of a similar exh they have bought.
Seems to be alright at the moment.I bought 2 crome tail pipes (158 ithink) look's okay.Time will Tell

Oh, I dunno - a touch of Gun Gum and a bandage and it should be fine  ;D

By the way, is that my hairpiece you've got in there?  I've been wondering where it has gone   ;)

I thought some little creature had taken up residency in it for a minute ;D ;D The inside had completely collapsed & was as crusty as hell. I imagine that hairy stuff is what blocked it up & made it go KERBANG!!!

To be honest when I got it up on the ramps and had a proper look I was suprised to say the least. The front section and mid section are brand new! The back-box on the otherhand was well rusty and was ready for falling off  ::) Cant understand why anyone would do that, go to all that trouble and not change the back box  :-/
Was a doddle to do aswell and I'm well happy with it  :) :) :)
