I just wanted to know that if you keep playing copied cd's in the multi disc changer or use the copied sat nav discs, I heared that the laser can get worn and not work anymore. 

Is it possible to remove the whole unit and have another laser (optical reader) put in?

Laser for the satnav is obtainable from Germany. Multi-disc will need a replacement CDC3 from a CCR2006, NCDC2013/5 or CCR600

Whats a cdc3.  I have the siemens 2013 with the colour screen if that helps. Do you mean get another system all together.

CDC3 is the laser drive unit for the 4-disc cartridge

If you want to play CDRs, replace the system entirely.

Unfortuantely, on the Elite, that means replacing HU, screen, amp and speakers.  There is no halfway house.

The key reason they wont play recorded discs is not pit size its actualy down to the control system used.

If you consider a burnt disc, THE major difference is the reflectance of the material (with recorded media being considerably lower than that of 'printed').

The control system works being monitoring the eye shape from the PIN diode and varying the focus to optimise it.

When the eye shape is smaller due to poorer reflectance, the decision threshold in the control circuit has to be dynamicaly adjusted and some control systems are not designed to handle this.

The result is a focusing setup that will hunt more on burnt discs and hence this shortens the life.

Whilst there are actually many technical reasons as to the differences, many people appear to struggle to comprehend the reflectivity reasons, but most seem to understand pit sizes and this description has been used with more success to describe the difference in laymans terms than any other. THE main difference though is that genuine discs are pressed and have a sharper "edge" for the laser to read, but even that is not accepted by joe public. The bottom line is to stop people from putting non compatable discs into a CD player - the technicalities are actually immaterial.
