Title: White goods thread - Beko tumble drier
Post by: aaronjb on 20 April 2018, 17:56:10
Everyone loves a white goods thread, right?

The other day the tumble drier started making a godawful racket when it started rotating - a horrible vibrating noise and tried to walk it's way around the utility room.

I figured.. bearings, probably, maybe belt. So I ordered a full set of four front pad "bearings" (plastic slippers) and rear "bearing" (bushing, actually), belt, front felt seal from Beko spares direct, and waited.

They turned up today so I stripped it all down, changed out the front pads, changed out the rear bearing and popped the new belt on the drum. Put it all back together and.. the new belt is significantly shorter than the old belt :( Has the right length printed on it (1967 H9) but it's a good two inches from meeting the motor spindle and there's no way on god's earth I can get it to reach.

Bugger, I thought. And took it all apart again to put the old belt back on.

Put it back together, started it up and .. horrible vibrating noise. Grrr! The only thing I can think is that the belt is slipping because it's not tight enough (even though it takes a socket and extension to cheat the belt back onto the spindle), but the new one is so much shorter.

So it's off to a white goods spares place tomorrow to see if another 1967 H9 belt is more like the old one... meanwhile, the tumble sits on a trestle in the middle of the kitchen looking sorry for itself. >:( >:(

(Oh, and the top oven on the two month old oven has packed up, too, so we're doing well for white goods failures this week!)

Did you check the fan impeller ?
common to get stuff sucked in
(the wire from bras is common or that one sock that went missing )

Ask Sue when she brings you your tea in the bath...

If she reads that, you may find that hot tea poured where you don't like it!

Hm.. you made me go and check it with no belt on the motor - when the motor spins up it looks like it wants to climb out of the drier! Vibrating like a whacker plate.

Something stuck, or shot motor, I wonder.. if it's motor then it's for the pikeys to pick up and I'll order a new machine..

If it IS the motor, maybe you could try ebay or even Freecycle - somebody might have a machine with a knackered drum, erc., but with a working motor?

Probably not with your record as they are commonly used as a firelighter. Ideal in winter. Turn on, go out for half an hour and come home to a real fire. The best are allegedly the Hotpoint Ronson range, where they ignite first time, every time. :o :o :o

you did not say what model number ,unless i missed it  :-\

but the motor that turns the drum also drives the fan impellers ,
so summat stuck will  make it "Vibrating like a whacker plate"
the motor shaft is quite long on some models ,could be bent .
have you been drying cylinder heads and other engine parts ?  :D

the motor "spins up" (or tries too) ,so motor is ok i'd of thought ,so  , what items of laundry are missing  ::)

She says no. Apparently its one of those things she says would be useful, but I won't let her buy.

I had choco chip shortbread delivered to me as well :)

Cheers Rods2, that gives me the ammo I need should she say she wants one :y

She's not got over "the incident" yet, so any mention of the fire word scares the bejesus out of her ;D

Dave, you are a genius. I will never malign builders again ;)

I couldn't imagine a sock getting into the very well sealed looking ducting for the fan but, when I took it all apart.. there it was. Not even my ruddy sock, it's Louise's friends who was doing her washing here the other day!  ;D

Oh well at least it's had a service with all new bearings, should be good for a few years yet then.

Glad you got it sorted  :)

Dave, you are a genius. I will never malign builders again ;)

I'm no Genius , just spent many an hour on kitchen floors ,fixing appliances for people  ;)
I hate all the waste in this throw away society
As for "builders" there's good and bad, so, just stick to slating the bad ones  :D

hold the odd sock for ransom ,till "Louise's friend" coughs up for parts and weekend call-out costs  :y

Well, if you will run a launderette ;D

I wonder if he does ironing? :D

I'm sure he could soon see off my pile which has been reducing at a rate of only one shirt at about 8AM every day...

Would be well worth the 200 mile round trip. :y
