I see Halfords offer airon re-charging kits. Are they worth buying?

No, its a can of gas and a separate hose for injecting it so not cheap.

It doesn't vac the system down, check for leaks or anything sensible so may work where the system is still working but has lost a bit of gas, totally useless for a failed and now repaired system or one with no gas left.

I have used it, and you get a 10er back when you return the bottle.

But as said its only good for a working system that has lost a little gas

Possibly the one occasion Kwikfit are some use as they guarantee the temp drop after a refill or they don't charge, I have known people pull the fuse out mid recharge to force a free refill

Thanks for advice. Four of my six Omegas had failed aircon when purchased and I made no effort to repair them. The other two had working aircon, but on my 2003 police special it is now becoming less effective, so I thought it might benefit from a regas. Rather than go through the hassle of finding someone who can do it, getting a price, delivering the car to him and collecting it afterwards, I would rather do it myself.

Before re-gassing an Omega Aircon system i'd check how much of the condenser is complete, then take it so someone who knows what they are talking about (Serek being the obvious choice if you are ever passing) and get him to re-gas it, changing both valves at the same time.

Topped mine up at my local ATS for £40. 

Getting to know them now and they know my car as "Wow, not many of these left, looks immaculate" was the comment 

I Fitted new genuine GM condenser as that failed a couple of years ago, well, disintegrated !

It's like the Arctic in there now with Climate control on 'LO', and thats where it stays.  Always left the A/C climate system on regardless and stood me in good stead - car never foggs up and had new from NEW  (not as I take her out in the wet  ).  Even the penguins are complaining it's too cold 

Best get it all vacumed out and nice new 950g or R134a in buy the specialist machines.

Sadly, because you don't know how much is in the system, plus it will be full of air as well, those DIY kits are a complete waste of money.

How is going to Halfords, spending the £40, and doing the job yourself any less hassle than driving to any garage in the country, spending £40 and having them do it better?

fit a new condenser,and new valves , then go to local garage and get it recharged for £35.00
