Ok good one for you, i haven't seen this before bur someone might know.

2.5V6 Manual with AC on a V Plate.

Start the engine, you can turn the ign off and disconnect BOTH battery leads and the engine keeps running

Cheers

Got to be either ignition switch or something powering the switched supply when switch is in the off position. If you turn on some ignition -switched loads (cigar lighter, wipers, etc.) does the engine then stop or does it keep running regardless?

Do other items that are usually ignition switched still work when off too?

Does the battery drain if it's left standing?

The switch behind the lock barrel on the steering column.

Don't make a habit of disconnecting the battery while the engine is running, the battery basically acts as a huge dampening capacitor which will absorb any spikes in the supply from the alternator. Without it you could damage some of the sensitive electronics.

Very true, Paul. The output of an alternator is VERY dirty if there is no battery across it.

I used to have this problem on an old BSA Bantam - had to yank the plug lead (there was only one!) off to stop it in the end!   :o

Not heard of anything similar for a looooong time....

Yes - and alternators don't like running with a low loading.
