Faked oil?
« on: 07 October 2011, 09:28:59 »

Hi all!
My iron is 500 km after oil change but since that I can still hear strange noise from camshafts (valve voice) and crankcase :'(. Previous owner used Castrol 10w40 and I've decided the change for recommended GM oil. Is it possible that's existing faked GM 10w40 semi-synthetic?  OR is Castrol Magnatec better? I'm reluctant believing in. Any special act has to be done at time of change of different oil type? The noise is not strong but scaring me  :-\ especially at low rev (idle) hearable well. Pump doesn't push enough at low rev? What do you propose?

Many thanks,   Laszlo , Hungary

From what I recall, reading here for nearly 3 years now, Castrol is NOT recommended for Omega engines.

Swap to GM as soon as you can.

I'd do some quick changes, change the oil every 500 miles or so for the next 2,000, see if it reduces  :y

My mechanic recommended using of inside cleaner additives. Does GM have any? Do you have any experience with similar additives?

Use wynns lifter treatment in your next oil change, then after 1000kms change oil, then do another oil change after 1000km and maybe another. If it is still the same you either learn to live with the noise or remove camshafts and service or change the lifters.

Had the same problem on my 95 Estate. Noisy lifters after 1'st oil change, just a week after i bougth it, at 105K.miles
Used wynns oil system cleaner, then canged the oil with GM 10/40 semi, and topped it of with Wynns lifter treatment.
After a few hundred miles, the nois where gone, and it stayed away all the way to 250K miles when the piston rings gave up on number 2 syl.
But I did change the oil every 5000 miles, or twice a year..

Give it a try, but only use wynns as the guys have recomended. :y

sorry to hijack op? but was thinking thought its not wise to use them engine cleaners on old engines, if there is any clogged up cracks then this clears and you'll end up with oil leaking. Has this got any weight to it, or utter porkies!!

My one just seem to be old, before I bought the car got younger engine. The 2th owner  before me did and the previous one put into that wrong oil. I investigated (fortunately there are a lot of Omega fanatic here so, hm,  that was not a hard job):D The  only original part is the HG but it's restored as well.  :y I'm not afraid of cracks.  :)

Cheers

OK, I've already found a source here. Not a huge amount of money per bottle.
