noisy rear blind
« on: 27 January 2007, 20:17:59 »

Hi all
Rear blind goes up no problem. When I put it down it goes all the way down but then continues to make a loud noise. The noise is best described as an ill fitting pair of cogs. Lasts for about 5-10 seconds as if the motor is taking up a slack of some kind.
There is nothing restricing the blind, it goes all the way up and all the way down, just a bit of overrun after going down.
Any help appreciated.

Cheers :)

We can add it, all you need is the dash button and the blind itself. The loom connector is already in place in the boot, so its plug and play if you get your hands on one.  :y

The rasping when it goes down is a knackered motor. Sorry.  Tolerate it until it breaks completely (they tend to go on for ages, despite this problem)...

Your tow bar comes in and out based on the sun shining on the back parcel shelf?  :-?

Wow, neat trick!  ;) ;D

Thanks TB. Any idea where the motor is located? for when it does die.

Now, ive just taken out the grille on the rear parcel shelf. Can see the motor and mechanism. All seems well. I counted the relay times and it is 6 seconds up and 6 seconds down, that is just the relay with the motor unplugged. The actual blind takes 6 seconds to go up and 4 seconds to go down.
It seems that the blind is not meeting enough resistance and is going down too quick, hence the motor still runs on for a few seconds, not 5-10 as originally quoted.
I tightened the nuts at the ends of the rods, but only made a difference to the up stroke, blind went up slower and didnt make the end stop in time for the relays 6 seconds. Thery are the only 2 nuts I can find on the mechanism and I cant think of another way to increase resistance on the down motion without effecting the up.

No, its a faulty mech.  The motor should stall for last second or so, but as mech is knackered, the gears slip...

Sounds about right. It seems to drop, a few inches, of its own accord midway down, which is obviously making it lose the 2 seconds. So, it is new mechanism, find a way of resisting the down stroke slightly or putting up with 2 seconds of horrible noise  :(
